Who pulled it off better? Both are physically unintimidating being well under average height and weight but they make up for it in their sheer psychotic presence.
Personally, have to go with Robert Carlyle portrayal of Begbie. Tommy DeVito is obviously the more dangerous man, being an actual mobster associate involved in murders and serious crimes but Begbie seems to be aroused by the violence and fear he puts into people and even he appears to have less redeemable qualities as DeVito.
Devito seems to have no emotional attachment to violence, it's just a means to an end and DeVito actually seems to have people that care about him, Begbie seems to just have people that entertain what he is saying for sheer fear of what might happen if they say the wrong thing.
