I of course have seen both these fighters fight before. I just wouldnt say I was a fan. This is why you have to take advantage of PRICELESS tv time, because that is your chance to get people to care about you.

It's impossible for me to ignore Renato Moicano anymore after this interview. I'll root for this man from now on.

Also, Douglas Silva De Andrade didnt plan any of this, but a reporter picked up on the fact that he had support from his mother and family and pressed him. His reaction made me really pull for him,you can see the pain and sacrifice to get to where he is.

Anyone have instances like this, where you might see a good fighter, but it wasnt until an interview,or you saw them do something outside of the fight, that made you a fan?

I admit that I used the time between fights, including post-fights interviews, to shitpost on sherdog.

Also, in soccer they have that ridiculous habit of interviewing players after a 2h game, with dreadful results, the guys are dumber than ever, which is quite a feat really. So I tend to skip post-anything interviews.
But I did just watch Moicano's and yeah, he looks like a cool guy.

I missed a lot of Moicano's fights prior to the Ortega match-up and had to go back and watch them to learn about the kid but he's a fun fighter. I was bummed he KO'd by Fiziev but then again we don't know how good Fiziev is yet--though he looks spectacular...

That said, yeah I think my favorite fighters bring it in the cage but win me over listening to them in long-form interviews outside. That's why I'm such a huge Whittaker fan. Izzy too. When he first went on Rogan about 5 years ago now he had the same confidence he has today as champ, but was a little more open and spoke in fewer riddles. Then there are the guys who are just real to who seem to never wear a mask and just be themselves like Nick Diaz.

That said, I think the outside the cage stuff does matter as a fan. I was a huge Jon Jones supporter and was even really sad for him after he hit the pregnant lady. I was trying to understand how he could make such a decision/mistake. It just took me a while with Jon to see that he always tries to wear a mask in public. Maybe not always the same mask, sometimes the choir boy other times the, "I don't give a fuck," and in competition with DC the "are you still there pussy," but through it all you see he's just an insecure asshole that wants the world to like him at his core. Or at least that's my read. Sorry for the minor thread derail but yeah I remember watching his first UFC fight live and being won over by the personality that turned out to be just one of his many faces. It's not that it wasn't him, I still think a piece of him lives in that space where he wants to be the good guy. Which as a fellow asshole trying to do better, I can respect... [/end rant]

Like the long form interviews that we all like so much, I feel I have learned something about you in this comment.

Best comment I've read from you yet, by far.
Well spoken sir (Bows in respect).

Justin is a saint on earth.
Dude had me damn near crying in his interview with the midget.

Amazing person that deserves more love than he gets.
Woah, yellow card for the bigot manlet over here

I think we all view these guys as indestructible beings, and when they show their human side it opens up a different doorway into their hearts and minds.

That is what takes us from fans to fans for life.
