You've heard some discredit Conor's masterful counter KO of Aldo over the years on sherdog
"Bu but made technical errors/jumped in due to being emotional"
And yet you watch Aldo KO Stephens, and it was the exact same case there, and to an even greater extent. Aldo jumped in leaning forward. His backfoot was literally off the ground
Look at his back foot completely off the ground
In fact Aldo was actually much more tighter and much more technically correct against Conor
As you can see there, Aldo was much tighter against Conor.
- Isnt leaning in as much. Much more subtle in his intentions, and his backfoot never actually leaves off the ground
Just compare, and you will see Aldo WAS actually "reckless" against Stephens. Aldo actually did make technical errors against Stephens
It's like with Anderson Silva fans. When ever Anderson "clowned" an opponent and it worked "omg amazing"
Yet when ever a better fighter would make Anderson pay for doing what he's always done..."doesn't count" and insert random excuse here ___
ALDO HAS ALWAYS "JUMPED IN"
And this isn't a thread to diminish Aldo nor his great win. This is simply to expose the ignorant double standards from sherdog posters
You cant praise Aldo for this win, yet then excuse or diminish his losses, just because....
In every single fight Aldo is always leaning in/jumping in etc
Aldo has always had major issues with being jumpy to fients and or over-extending in boxing exchanges
A much better fighter to Aldo in Conor, simply made Aldo pay for doing what he's always done against lesser fighters
That's why, skill wise and stylistically, Conor will always wreck Aldo.
Conor with his sophisticated fienting systems, Lead hand radar systems, footwork, range control and immaculate counter punching skill will always have Aldo jumpy/over-extending/and walking into - or "jumping" into his counters etc
This is why Holloway beat Aldo. His fients+jabs kept Aldo continually off set. His length, chin, and pressure then would eventually overwhelm him
All though to be fair, Aldo has a much greater chance of beating Holloway then ever coming close to Conor.
Conor's footwork and counter punching are a death sentence for Aldo...where as in both fights vs Holloway, Aldo has had lots of success against Holloway....Its just a matter of Aldo having the right gameplan against Holloway (which I can go into detail for another post)
So anyway the point is,
Don't discredit or diminish Conor's and Holloway's wins over Aldo. Aldo has always had the same strengths AND FLAWS. Aldo is just as big as them and cuts just as much weight as them too btw. Conor and Holloway are simply better fighters. PERIOD. No excuses.
Just because Aldo beat Stephens that doesnt mean he's now suddenly ever coming close to Conor McGregor who has vastly superior boxing skill and striking skill to Aldo
And Holloway will always be a very tough fight for Aldo, that Aldo will have to have the perfect gameplan for and fight his best fight to beat
Much respect to Aldo for his win. This thread is simply about adressing the double standard excuses people make for his losses, and about keeping realistic expectations in check
Now after saying what I feel needed to be said, Aldo vs Ortega would be an absolutely great fight. Ortega doesn't seem to have the strengths that would exploit Aldo's flaws (unless he gameplanned correctly) and it would be interesting to see who would be better on the ground. Even Aldo vs Mendes 3 is there now too, and that's awesome. Imagine what a BARN BURNER that fight would be?
