Statement by Norwegian Parliamentarian Bjørnar Moxnes on Nominating the BDS Movement for Palestinian Rights for a Nobel Peace Prize:

Eleven years since BDS’ launch, it’s high time for us to commit to doing no harm, and for all states to withdraw their complicity in Israel’s military occupation, racist apartheid rule, ongoing theft of Palestinian land, and other egregious human rights violations.

Awarding a Nobel Peace Prize to the BDS movement would be a powerful sign demonstrating that the international community is committed to supporting a just peace in the Middle East and using peaceful means to end military rule and broader violations of international law.

My hope is that this nomination can be one humble but necessary step towards bringing forth a more dignified and beautiful future for all peoples of the region.

I havn't noticed even one corporate news source even mention this. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Great move. No way BDS wins, but it should. Resisting overwhelming violence with nonviolence is a perfect example of what The Nobel Peace Prize should be about.

The tactic of a boycott of goods produced on the West Bank may be good to end the occupation. That is not what the global bds movement calls for.

However, the global bds movement is a joke. It should have a clear goal. The goal should be the creation of a Palestinian homeland that peacefully co-exists with Israel that is the homeland of the Hewish people.

As it exists the global bds movement has been completely ineffective. It only has empowered the right in Israel. Israel has had no problems growing its economy trading internationally.

Second paragraph will never happen. They don’t want peace with Israel. We know this because they say so. Everyone should stop even thinking maybe they want peace. THey don’t. Ever. Stop it.

Now that doesn’t mean they can just be another Islamist turd like everyone around them. That’s their right. Just know what you’re getting.
 
Norman finkelstein is a long time critic of Israel and he knows the global bds movement is full of shit and is a dead end road.

 
The Palestinian Authority does not support the global bds movement. Abbas says boycott goods produced on the West Bank but do not boycott Israel proper.

The bds movement is made up of people who feel like they want to do something but are not doing anything or people who do not think Israel should exist as the homeland of the Jewish people or people who are duped into thinking the tactic is nonviolent so the goals must be good.

While Israel does well economically, she receives billions in aid still. and how would her economy be without all the BDS victories?

Look at how much the Palestinians have had to deal with and they haven’t given up on their national ambitions. You think because some academic group no one has heard of that it will motivate Israelis to give up their national project?
 
There is a reason for why Sweden let Norway have the Nobel Peace Prize. So it wouldn’t be ashamed of such idiotic awards bestowed upon Obama and others...:p

Stop derailing the thread with your horse shit. BDS is a great idea, and a great movement. You can tell how impactful they are by how badly Israel wants them shut down.

Yes it is a rallying point for the right wing. Is the goal of the bds movement for the right wing to get more support?
 
From the brookings institute:

“Economically, therefore a consumer boycott seems less of a credible threat than either BDS, the Israeli government, or many in the United States seem to believe: it would be very hard to enforce a ban on commercial Israeli goods, from computer hardware and software, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, to advanced machinery in heavy industry. In other words, a significant portion of Israeli exports are in high demand—and this trend seems likely to continue—and most consumers (either firms or people) would be unable to replace them or unwilling to stop consuming them altogether.”

The right wing know this but play up the they do not want peace and want Israel gone so let’s circle the wagons and they gain support.

So if that is what you want....continue on with boycotting Israel proper and continue to be ambiguous with the end goals of the bds movement.
