Newly-formed South Korean promotion Battlefield Fighting Championship will have its inaugural event in Seoul at Olympic Hall on 18 March. The promotion has announced that a welterweight tilt between Strikeforce veteran Joe Ray and former ONE Championship middleweight champion Igor “Lionheart” Svirid is set for the main event.
Joe Ray (13-5) is coming off an unanimous decision loss to middleweight Vladimir Katyhin at M-1 Challenge 64 in early 2016. The Tiger Muay Thai representative has fought all over the globe but most notably for the Strikeforce organization. The American is 8-2 in his last ten fights and has never been submitted or knocked out in his career.
Igor Svirid (10-4) put himself on the map by tearing through the competition back in 2014 during ACB’s Middleweight Grand Prix and winning it all in a span of three months. Then in the same year, ONE decided to bring him in to take on Leandro Ataides for the vacant middleweight title at ONE FC 22. “Lionheart” didn’t even break a sweat demolishing him in 17 seconds of the first frame. However, he lost the title to Vitaly Bigdash via knocked out at ONE Championship: Tigers of Asia in Malaysia in his first defense. He subsequently lost to Luis Santos and Yasubey Enomoto that put him at three setbacks in a row.
