BATMAN V SUPERMAN Tracking for $140 Million Opening Weekend

7238649_batman-v-superman-tv-spot-shines-a-spotlight_t5e987e7d.png

On Thursday, Batman v Superman debuted on tracking to huge numbers, suggesting an opening of $140 million over the March 25-27 weekend in North America, if not more, according to those with access to prerelease surveys. Warner Bros. insiders are being more cautious in suggesting a range of $110 million on the lower end.

Either way, the tentpole — introducing Ben Affleck as the newest Batman and featuring Henry Cavill in his second turn as Superman — should rank among the top 10 openings of all time for a comic book adaptation.

The big question is whether Dawn of Justice, costing at least $250 million to make, can open on par with or ahead of the R-rated Deadpool, which stunned Hollywood when launching last month to $132.4 million over the three-day Presidents Day weekend. (Deadpool's four-day haul was $152.2 million.)

One big difference: Dawn of Justice, which sports a friendlier PG-13 rating, runs two hours and 31 minutes, meaning fewer show times. Deadpool's running time is one hour and 48 minutes.

In terms of March openings, The Hunger Games holds the record, with $152.5 million.

Doomsday Actor in BATMAN V SUPERMAN Revealed

Robin Atkin Downes works a lot with DC Animation, as the actor’s voice appeared in Batman: Bad Blood, Batman: Arkham Knight, Batman vs Robin, Beware the Batman, All-Star Superman, and Justice League: Doom. He just about plays any character from DC Comics, such as Alfred Pennyworth, Harvey Dent, Deathstroke, and the Court of Owls Grandmaster. His voice can also be heard on a few DC video games as well, including Batman: Arkham Origins and Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN to Get R-Rated Ultimate Edition Blu-Ray Release

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to get an R-rated "Ultimate Edition" release on Blu-ray, according to the Classifications and Ratings Administration.

Titled Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition, the expanded cut is likely to be similar in scope to Batman V Superman director Zack Snyder's Ultimate Cut of Watchmen.

It's reportedly rated R only for "scenes of violence," so it's unlikely this is a byproduct of Deadpool's massive success and the spate of R-rated comic book movies now rumored to be in development.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN Runtime Revealed to Be 2 Hours and 31 Minutes

Batman-v-Superman-IMAX-Behind-the-Scenes-Dragonlord.jpg

It's go big or go home with most blockbusters these days. Supersized budgets, coupled with the need for spectacle, and maximizing the audience dollars means that tentpoles routinely run past two hours, and Zack Snyder is certainly going the extra mile when it comes to Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

AMC Theaters has revealed that the superhero showdown will keep you in your seat for two hours and thirty-one minutes. That's eight minutes longer than Man Of Steel, nine minutes longer than Avengers: Age Of Ultron, but doesn't reach the mammoth length of Christopher Nolan's 164 minute The Dark Knight Rises.

What does mean for the actual movie? Not much. Either the story works for the length or not, and given that Batman v Superman is expected to cram in not just Wonder Woman, but appearances from other Justice League characters and more, the breathing room seems to make some sense.

Rumor: Warner Bros. "Nervous" About BATMAN V SUPERMAN After Screening

Batman-v-Superman-021716-Dragonlord.jpg

For the past few days, there've been lots of murmurs going around regarding the fact that Warner Bros and DC are starting to get really worried about their upcoming slate of DC films. Why is that? According to Drew McWeeny from HitFix, it's all related to the response the film has been receiving in test screenings.

From Latino-Review's sources, the term "worried" is a mischaracterization. They're not worried, per sé. What they are is nervous, and that's to be expected. After all, there is a lot riding on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Not only is the fate of an entire slate of DC films hanging in the balance of whether or not this movie hits, but the very definition of "hit" is now coming into question.

The budget for the film, with promotion included, has reportedly ballooned to north of $400 million. So for the movie to be considered a monster success- which the studio needs it to be- and for it to open the floodgates for the rest of the proposed slate, it would need to make north of a billion. The problem is, according to a well-connected source who spoke with LR on a condition of anonymity, the film could be as polarizing as Man of Steel.

To be clear, the source loved Man of Steel. And he's seen Batman v Superman, and he really liked it, too. But he also recalls how that MoS came out and split audiences and critics alike. It wasn't the kind of universal crowd-pleaser that DC wanted then, and that trend may very well continue with BvS.

Again, this isn't to say that the film is bad. Not at all. But it's not for everyone, and that's making the suits nervous, as there's a lot riding on this film and they'd rather it have turned out more accessible.

The idea to include Batman wasn't pre-planned. In fact, the whole Batman Vs Superman angle wasn't cooked up until well after Man of Steel had come out, and it's been said that they didn't decide to include Batman in the film until three days before they announced it at Comic Con. So bringing in The Dark Knight was an impulsive move, and one that was likely aided by the fact that DC knows that audiences love them some Batman.

The one recurring theme coming out of these test screenings, dating back to December, is that Ben Affleck's Batman is the highlight of the film.

But while McWeeny claims this could mean that his solo Batman flick could take the spot of Justice League, as the studio retools the team-up movie and shines a spotlight on the Snyder-less Batman flick, Latino Review's source says that Justice League is absolutely happening next, and that Affleck's solo film will not take its place. Production on JL is ramping up as we speak, and the thought is that they'll start filming after all of the actors are done promoting Batman v Superman. This also contradicts the idea that Snyder might not direct it.

Computer Algorithm Predicts BATMAN V SUPERMAN Has 32% Chance of Being Profitable

Doomsday-Batman-v-Superman-021716-Dragonlord.jpg

With its $200 million budget, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice will be one of the most expensive movies ever made when it’s released next month, and Warner Bros. has a lot riding on its success.

So, studio heads might be a little nervous to know that researchers at the University of Iowa have developed an analytical system that suggests the movie has only a 32 percent probability of turning a profit.

The system was developed by Kang Zhao, a professor of management sciences in the Henry B. Tippie College of Business, and Michael Lash, a doctoral student, to predict the probability of a movie’s profitability at the box office.

Their research has found dozens of elements that factor into a movie’s success, including the people involved in making the film (mostly the stars and director), the plot and genre (horror, rom-com, shoot-'em-up), and when the film was released (summer, when movies draw larger crowds, or late spring, when theaters are at their emptiest).

The system then uses a machine-learning, data-based algorithm to analyze those factors and determine the probability of a film earning a profit of at least $7.3 million, which the researchers considered to a reasonable profit on an investment (a modified version determines the probability of a film earning 11 percent return on investment). They ran the numbers from every film released in the U.S. between 2000 and 2010 through their “who, what, and when” formula to fine-tune which elements played a greater role.

The authors stress that their study looks only at box-office profitability and not tickets sold or revenue generated from video, streaming, or other secondary sources. It also takes into account only those factors that are known prior to the production of the movie.

Rumor: Warner Bros. Worried About Their DC Cinematic Universe?

Justice-League-Fan-Art-021216-Dragonlord.jpg

Hitfix’s Drew McWeeny sat down with Roth Cornet to talk about the last trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and conversation turned to what his sources told him about Warner Bros.’ attitude about the film in particular and the shared DC Cinematic Universe in general.

McWeeny says that Batman v Superman is starting to scare Warner Bros., that the advance response hasn’t been as good as the studio had expected and they are worried.

Warners needs to film to make over $1 billion for the studio to not only make its money back but also to support the rest of the announced films in the DC Cinematic Universe. The response they are getting from test screenings tells them that is not going to happen.

McWeeny bets that Justice League does not start production when it is scheduled, and Zack Snyder will not be at the helm of it when it does.

He also believes Warners will do everything to move Ben Affleck's The Batman solo movie up to take Justice League‘s place, believing that film would act as a better lead in to the team up flick than BvS and a better opportunity to “gain people back” onboard for the rest of the slate.

Final Trailer for BATMAN V SUPERMAN Saves the Best for Last

Batman-v-Superman-Blocked-Punch-Dragonlord.jpg

We're just six weeks away from the superhero fight of the century, and Warner Bros. has whipped anticipation for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice up even further with a new trailer for the DC Comics film. As it's the final trailer in the film's ad campaign, the clip makes the most of its two-minute running time by packing in new shots, new lines, new punches and new voices.

Action, romance, conflict, bravery -- the new Batman v Superman trailer has all of that and more. The trailer may not reveal more about Doomsday's role in the film, but it features more than enough totally new moments to get fans pumped up. A quarter of this trailer is spent showing the veteran Dark Knight at work, busting up windows, crates and criminals in the process, and it establishes the new movie Batman as a force to be reckoned with.

The final moment of the trailer addresses a question everyone has been asking since the title of the film was announced: how does Batman, a human, stand a chance against Superman, a super-powerful Kryptonian? Well, here's your answer -- or at least a hint. We get to see Superman throw a punch at Batman and, somehow, Batman deflects the punch midair.

Scoot McNairy's Mysterious Role in BATMAN V SUPERMAN Revealed

Scoot-McNairy-Batman-v-Superman-020116-Dragonlord.jpg

The debate over Scoot McNairy's role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is an old one. From early on in the film's production, leaked set photos showed the actor in green knee-high socks, the kind usually used for digital replacement or deletion.

Early speculation centered around what would replace those green socks. Some thought it would be metal legs revealing McNairy as Metallo, whereas others thought the socks would be used as reference to make his legs a blur (Barry Allen, anyone?).

Latino-Review now has the answer to what is Scoot McNairy's role in the movie. Spoilers below.

The trailers for BvS have shown McNairy's character without shins, and feet bound to a wheelchair. You can see this in the shots by the memorial for the Battle of Metropolis, and when Superman shows up at what looks to be a Senate hearing.

Recently, rumors have resurfaced that McNairy is playing Superman comics character Jimmy Olsen, who was wounded when Superman took on Zod at the end of Man of Steel. While part of that is correct--that the character was injured as a by product of Superman's actions--Scoot McNairy is NOT playing Jimmy Olsen.

According to Latino Review's sources, McNairy's wheelchair-bound character will be brought in to testify against Superman to the U.S. Senate, but also becomes a victim of Lex Luthor's campaign against the Man of Steel. One of Luthor's schemes in the movie involves turning McNairy's character into a human bomb of sorts, radicalizing him, in an attempt to get him close to Superman and to hurt him.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN Outpacing Competition on Digital Platforms

Batman-v-Superman-Empire-020116-Dragonlord.jpg

With upcoming films Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman both climbing the DAR-Film leaderboard, Warner Bros. has claimed the lead as the studio with the most anticipated comic-book adaptations of the year.

Among the slew of comic book films set for release in 2016, including new Captain America and X-Men adaptations, early social and digital tracking places Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman 500% stronger than competitors based on standing at the same point pre-release. Batman v Superman is currently the #1 film by volume, followed by Suicide Squad and Deadpool.

Suicide Squad will not hit theaters until August of 2016, but with Batman v Superman set for release in March, early trailer interest levels confirm that Warner is expected to see one of its strongest summers yet.

Lauren Cohan Cast as Martha Wayne in BATMAN V SUPERMAN

Lauren-Cohan-Batman-v-Superman-Dragonlord.jpg

Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead, The Boy) seemingly confirms that she is playing Bruce Wayne's ill-fated mother, Martha, in Zack Snyder's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Cohan's name was added to IMDB's cast list for the film and the 34-year old actress retweeted the news via her official Twitter account.

What makes this bit of casting even more interesting is that Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) is playing her husband, Thomas Wayne, and he just landed a major role in AMC's The Walking Dead. So, in a twisted way you could say Maggie is married to Negan.

In the film, we'll see a flashback to the pivotal moment in which Thomas and Martha Wayne were murdered in a dark alleyway after taking their son, Bruce, to go see The Mark of Zorro.

Watch a New 3-Minute Trailer for BATMAN V SUPERMAN

Superman-Wonder-Woman-Batman-120215-Dragonlord.jpg

After that intense clip, Warner Bros. has unveiled the full new trailer for director Zack Snyder's highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film picks up after the events of Man of Steel, as Henry Cavill' Superman finds himself dealing with the repercussions of his collateral damage-heavy fight with General Zod and a world on edge. Ben Affleck's Batman, meanwhile, comes out of the shadows to defend his city against this alien presence.

This trailer strikes a bit of an odd tone as the Warner Bros. marketing team is seemingly trying to alleviate fears the film is deadly serious by showing off its lighter aspects, which are certainly welcome but give us a bit of whiplash after Monday's ominous trailer teaser. Nevertheless, there's a massive reveal here as we see the villain Doomsday for the first time, as well as a hero shot of Batman, Superman, and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman all working together. Is it a case of giving away too much way before the film hits theaters, or is this simply the tip of the iceberg?

Batman v Superman also stars Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Holly Hunter, Scoot McNairy, and Laurence Fishburne. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in theaters on March 25, 2016.

CIVIL WAR Beats BATMAN V SUPERMAN in Trailer Views

Civil-War-Batman-v-Superman-Trailers-Dragonlord.jpg

The second trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice debuted on Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday night to much fan excitement, but not quite as much excitement as greeted the first trailer for the film.

The new Batman v Superman clip logged 23.2 million views in its first 24 hours on YouTube and Facebook after the Dark Knight himself, Ben Affleck, debuted it on Kimmel, according to ListenFirst Media. This figure represents a significant dip in engagement for the new pic compared to its predecessors; its first teaser trailer was viewed 30 million times in the 24 hours after it was released in April, and the full trailer that bowed at Comic-Con in July was viewed 30.1 million times in its first 24 hours.

This is the second major comic-book adaptation trailer to debut on Kimmel recently: Marvel's Captain America: Civil War trailer also debuted on the late-night show a week prior, notching a (self-reported) new record for Marvel, with 61 million views in its first 24 hours. But Marvel was counting more than just YouTube and Facebook views.

The decrease could be a result of the release sequence - it's natural that the third clip for a film would pull fewer eyeballs than the first. Or perhaps the trailer would have fared better had it bowed ahead of Civil War, instead of the other way around. It's also possible that the doubled star power of having both Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. introduce the Civil War clip generated more online chatter and translated to more views. In any case, it's no doubt that the battle for Twitter dominance will reach comic-book levels of intensity as the films' release dates loom.

New BATMAN V SUPERMAN Footage Teases Intense Standoff

Batman-v-Superman-113015-Dragonlord.jpg

Hot on the heels of Marvel's Captain America: Civil War trailer debut, Warner Bros. has unveiled a new look at director Zack Snyder's highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice by way of the film's first sneak-peek TV spot, which aired during tonight's episode of the Batman prequel series Gotham. The forty-nine second sneak peek ends by revealing a full trailer will be released on Wednesday on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

In lieu of a lengthy trailer, Warner Bros. decided to include an extended clip from the film featuring Ben Affleck's Batman hanging by his wrists. Those soldiers dressed in black - the same ones we saw in the Comic-Con trailer sporting Superman's insignia - stand watch as the visibly angered Kryptonian superhero sticks his landing and rips off Batman's mask. The biggest question is who are these soldiers and why do they literally bow down to Superman?

The film stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Jesse Eisenberg, Gal Gadot, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Holly Hunter, Scoot McNairy, and Laurence Fishburne. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in theaters on March 25, 2016.

Ezra Miller 'Confirms' The Flash Will Be in Batman v Superman

Flash-Batman-v-Superman-090215-Dragonlord.jpg

New details about Ezra Miller's Flash may have been revealed, including confirmation of his appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The supposed details were posted as an image to the DCEUFeed Twitter page. The feed only has 40 followers and 101 tweets, most of which are memes or retweets of official feeds, so we can't speak in any way towards its credibility. There is a photo of someone, who may or may not be the person that runs the feed, with Miller, which is the best evidence we have towards the information's legitimacy.

According to the tweet, Miller divulged that he will appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with long hair and a costume with a post-apocalyptic look to it. If this is true, it's easy to speculate that Barry Allen appears in Batman v. Superman after time travelling to the present day era from a post-apocalyptic (Apokoliptic?) future. Also, his physique will be "ripped" rather than "bulky."

Michael Shannon 'Confirms' Doomsday in Batman v Superman?

General-Zod-Doomsday-Dragonlord.jpg

Earlier this month, Michael Shannon told a funny story about getting trapped in a toilet on the set of Batman v Superman because he had "flippers" over his hands. This obviously led to speculation that he must be taking on a motion capture role as Doomsday (as has been rumored), but the actor is now doing some pretty unconvincing damage control!

"I wasn't there," he claims in an interview with The Daily Beast. "It's a really awkward situation... I'm in the trailer for a movie that I didn't work on." Shannon still hasn't seen the trailer, so obviously isn't aware of the fact we've all seen him in the movie; he must have been on set to shoot those scenes as a corpse after all.

Instead, the actor has come up with a ludicrous claim (likely fed to him by the studio) that he does appear, but as a...ghost?! "The thing about the whole Krypton universe, apparently, is that even when you destroy them, there are ghosts. The first [film], Jor-El is there even though he's been dead for lord knows how long. I went over and did some voice-over stuff because it's like that ghost thing. But I don't know if I'm supposed to say that. I get very nervous."

None of this sounds even remotely convincing, and it becomes even harder to believe when the actor attempts to explain away that story about the flippers.

"Somebody was asking me about this in New York and I made up some ridiculous bullshit answer about how my character Zod has flippers, and this went viral on the Internet or something and people have been asking me about that. That is so obviously a complete bullshit story, right? But people took it seriously."

Yeah, right. Anyway, here's where things get really interesting...the actor goes on to specifically mention Doomsday. It's said in a jokey way, but in doing so, has Shannon confirmed that's the role he's taking on?

It's hard to say for sure, but he does appear to be getting mixed up between Zod and Doomsday during this interview. "Maybe they should add it, I don' know! Maybe in Part 3, Doomsday will have flipper hands. I mean, look... nothing would make me happier than to work with Zack [Snyder] again, he's hysterical and he's a lot of fun to work with."

Fan Theory: Robin Becomes The Joker in DC Extended Universe

Robins-Costume-BvS-Dragonlord.jpg

According to a new fan theory that's gaining considerable traction, Jared Leto's Joker may not be the original clown prince of crime, but a former boy wonder. That's right - some are now thinking that the Jason Todd/Robin from Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice didn't literally die in Zack Snyder's universe, but somehow transformed into the Joker.

The theory's evidence comes from the shot of Robin's costume in the Batman V. Superman trailer, and the publicity still of a shirtless Joker. If you look closely at both photos, you can see that Leto's Joker and the Robin costume both have puncture wounds on the left and right shoulder. Still, it's small detail to hang such a large theory on. However, even taking all of this into account, there are still a lot of holes in this "evidence." For one thing, Jared Leto and Ben Affleck are the same age.

DC has made a lot of changes to its comic book stories over the years: some accepted by the fans, others looked down upon but not completely rejected. Should Warner Bros. and Snyder decide to go down this route of transforming Jason Todd into The Joker, it is going to be a complete disaster. Fans are going to riot. Some might even go as far as to boycott the DC Extended Universe entirely.

Let's face it, boys and girls: this is a stupid rumor that needs to come to an end soon. More importantly, however, is that turning Jason into The Joker would be a wasted opportunity for future Batman films, bypassing a potential Batman: The Red Hood storyline.

Rumor: Is Jared Leto's The Joker Actually Jason Todd in the DC Extended Universe?

Jena Malone Rumored to Play Batgirl in BATMAN V SUPERMAN

Jena-Malone-Batgirl-073015c-Dragonlord.jpg

Between Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Lex Luthor, Zack Snyder's incoming film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is already chock full of appearances by the denizens of the DC Comics Universe. But if a new rumor is to be believed, the film will add one more caped crusader to its lineup.

Latino Review is reporting that actress Jena Malone will play the part of Barbara Gordon in Batman v Superman. The actress has been rumored to be a part of the production for months, but the closest to any real info that's arrived on that front have been reports in the Hollywood trades with no official confirmation from the actress or Warner Bros.

Malone previously appeared in Snyder's Sucker Punch and has recently played a part in another big action franchise with a role in the Hunger Games series. If she is in fact playing Barbara Gordon, there's no word as to whether she'll suit up in the film as Batgirl or not, but it would be the first time the iconic role originated by Yvonne Craig has been played in live action since the short-lived Birds of Prey TV series in 2002 (aside from an unnamed cameo in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight).

Batman's Age and Other Details for BATMAN V SUPERMAN

Batman-v-Superman-Batsignal-Dragonlord.jpg

The latest edition of Empire Magazine includes tons of new Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice details, with a particular focus on Ben Affleck's Batman. As has been the case ever since he was cast, much of that focus revolves around the fact that the Gone Girl star is playing an older Caped Crusader than we're used to seeing. "We are playing him 45 or 46," director Zack Snyder confirms. "He has been Batman for 20 years. All the history is there. Was there a Robin at one time? Possibly."

This interview obviously took place before the trailer was released as producer Charles Roven also teased the fate of a certain Boy Wonder. "He has lost those near and dear to him, and not necessarily from old age of disease..." That could of course also refer to Batman's other allies, especially as Jim Gordon's fate in the DC Extended Universe isn't all that clear at this point.

"Initially I thought, 'I'm older, it doesn't seem like the right sort of fit for me,'" adds star Ben Affleck. "Then Zack pitched me his concept for this older, more broken, kind of f**ked up Batman. It was something we haven't seen. We have seen that Batman is willing to cross the line to protect people. That vigilantism has been a part of his character all along, and we are tapping into that mentality when faced by something as potentially as deadly a Superman."

It's Superman's arrival which is really going to shake up the life of Batman by the sound of it, as Snyder went on to explain how the Man of Steel changes the vigilante's perceptions. "We want to assume that Batman has reached this point in his life and career as a superhero, and Superman represents a sort of philiophical change. He is a paradigm shift for Batman: 'I've been fighting criminals all my life, trying to find justice, and now I am confronted with a concept that is transcendent to me.' In the face of Superman, a man robbing a bank doesn't matter."

"He's having a crisis of conscience. 'Am I really just a vigilante who stalks the alleys of Gotham?'" asks Snyder. "It is rich stuff that he deals with. Ben does an amazing job." Early on in their feature, the director indicates that Batman is in some ways the villain of this movie, but later clarifies that by stating that who fans side with when the heroes meet in battle will ultimately come down to their own perceptions. "It's a point of view thing. That is why Dawn of Justice is the full title. What it does is allow us to start this conversation."

Empire reveals that Batman does indeed have history with The Joker and Harley Quinn, and indeed all of the criminals in Belle Reve who will ultimately make up Task Force X in Suicide Squad. Batman is responsible for putting them all in there.

3-Minute Trailer for BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

Wonder-Woman-Gal-Gadot-071115-Dragonlord.jpg

The much-anticipated trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice bowed at Comic-Con during Warner Bros.' panel in Hall H Saturday morning. Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, who play Batman and Superman, respectively, were on hand to introduce the pic along with director Zack Snyder.

Jesse Eisenberg appears in the trailer as villain Lex Luthor. "The devils don't come from hell beneath us," Eisenberg says as Luthor in the clip. "They come from the sky." Wonder Woman also gets in on the action, played by Gal Gadot. Amy Adams, Holly Hunter and Jeremy Irons also star.

During the panel, Snyder detailed how the new superhero chapter dealt with DC lore. "The big rule we broke is we put Gotham and Metropolis next to each other," he said. "They're sister cities like Oakland and San Francisco."

The film also stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Gal Gadot, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, Scoot McNairy, and Jason Momoa. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in theaters on March 25, 2016.

Synopsis: Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City's own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis's most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it's ever known before.

BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE Animated Film Coming in 2016

The-Killing-Joke-071015-Dragonlord.jpg

Following the release of Justice League: Gods and Monsters, the next DC Entertainment animated feature will be Batman: The Killing Joke. Due out in 2016, the story will be an adaptation of the controversial and acclaimed original graphic novel by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland. In the comics, The Joker escapes Arkham, shoots and paralyzes Barbara Gordon in order to terrorize her father, Gotham City Police Commissioner Jim Gordon.

There's no word yet on casting -- the film itself was just announced by Bruce Timm at the Comic Con International: San Diego panel for Justice League: Gods and Monsters -- but veteran Joker actor Mark Hamill has said in the past that he would un-retire the character for an adaptation of The Killing Joke...

Recently, the controversy around how Barbara Gordon was treated and how the violence against her is seen by many as sexualized boiled over when a Joker 75th Anniversary variant cover for Batgirl depicted him in the clothes he wore in the book, menacing a helpless Batgirl. The variant was ultimately pulled and not published at the request of the artist. Other animated films announced for 2016 - Batman: Bad Blood featuring Batwoman, and Justice League vs Titans.

Ben Affleck to Star, Co-Write and Direct BATMAN Solo Movie

Batman-Ben-Affleck-071415-Dragonlord.jpg

Here's one for the Comic-Con crowd to gnaw on. Deadline is reporting that Ben Affleck is teaming up with Geoff Johns to co-write a stand-alone Batman movie that Affleck will direct and star in after he completes his longstanding plan to helm his scripted adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel Live By Night.

Johns has about as much comic cred as anybody around. He's DC Comics' chief creative officer and has written some of its best remembered comic book series including Green Lantern, Aquaman, Batman, Justice League, The Flash and Superman. He also has written TV series superhero transfers Smallville, Arrow and The Flash, as well as the Supergirl project with Greg Berlanti for CBS.

Deadline's studio sources tell that that Affleck and Johns are well in synch and have more than found their rhythm. In fact, they are likely to turn in a script before the end of the summer, prior to Affleck going off to direct Live By Night in November. Affleck postponed that pic to star in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. The Batman movie would shoot after he finishes Live By Night, and the plot would reflect the Batman character that emerges after Batman V Superman and Justice League, the latter of which comes out November 17, 2017.

DC and Warner Bros have set a long list of superhero movies that take the Marvel formula of interspersing characters from one film to the next, so it's unclear when Affleck's Batfilm will be slotted.

Rumor: Flash and Aquaman's Cameos in Batman v Superman

Flash-Batman-v-Superman-061615-Dragonlord.jpg

Everyone knows that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will serve as a soft intro to Zack Snyder’s Justice League. With Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash cast, many assumed that BvS would tease the League members to some degree, but were unsure of how the film would do it. But thanks to newly surfaced rumors, Batman v Superman's big screen cameos for The Flash and Aquaman may have finally been revealed.

As Heroic Hollywood's Umberto Gonzalez reported, Batman will briefly see The Flash (Ezra Miller) as a blur and an imprisoned Aquaman (Jason Momoa) through various video feeds while infiltrating a Lexcorp/CADMUS facility. Here’s how Gonzalez described it, with additional reporting from Daily Superhero:

In the movie, there is a scene where Batman breaks deep into Lexcorp/Cadmus and manages to hack into the Lexcorp computers. Batman brings up surveillance footage on the monitors which shows Ezra Miller's The Flash as a blur that stops a robbery and Jason Momoa's Aquaman being held prisoner in a containment chamber where we see his hand slap against the glass.

Furthermore, according to Gonzalez's sources, Aquaman is being held prisoner by Amanda Waller and is being studied and tested on. That's why Waller is in possession of Aquaman's trident in her trophy case. Aquaman was captured after he fought a mutated shark who is being held in the same prison as he is. The mutated shark is referred to as the King of Sharks. Yes, folks... King Shark. Very cool indeed.

First Synopsis for BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

Batman-v-Superman-Dawn-Justice-Logo-600x200-Dragonlord.jpg

From the Las Vegas Licensing Expo 2015, Warner Bros. has released a new official synopsis for Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The synopsis confirms many of the plot points that fans have long suspected, based on filming rumors and scenes shown in the first trailer. Here is the new official Warner Bros. synopsis.

"Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City's own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis's most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it's ever known before."

Of course, the first part of the synopsis describing Superman as a god-like Super Hero ties into the image from the trailer of the fallen Superman statue with "false god" spray painted on it in red. The second part about a new threat quickly arising that puts mankind in great danger certainly sounds like it could match up with the much-rumored Doomsday. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25, 2016.

Rumor: Lex Luthor Will Wear His Warsuit in BATMAN V SUPERMAN

Lex-Luthor-Warsuit-Batman-v-Superman-Dragonlord.jpg

According to JoBlo, not only will Lex Luthor be the main villain in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but he will also get in on the action... and will do so wearing his trademark green and purple warsuit! That's right, we will finally be seeing Lex don the armor he's worn for decades in the comics and various animated series and films.

How will it look exactly? JoBlo's source says it will be very much like the many variations we've seen in the past and will obviously fit the style and look of the film. Lex will don the suit for at least part of the film, but it's unclear if it's just in the finale.

There have been many theories about how he gets the suit, one of them being that he gathers Kryptonian technology recovered from the Metropolis battle in Man of Steel, possibly including the corpse of Zod. The site can't confirm any of the details or speculation on how he gets (or simply builds) the suit, only that he will wear it.

JoBlo can also corroborate the reports that Lex isn't the only villain. Whether or not that's Doomsday or someone else, they can't confirm.

Warner Bros.' Struggle in Creating Their DC Shared Universe

Batman-v-Superman-Wonder-Woman-042915-Dragonlord.jpg

With the March 2015 opening of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice many months off, it's obviously too early to know whether Warner Bros. can execute a series of interlocking tentpoles based in the DC universe. But with the stakes very high, Wall Street and Hollywood are asking: Can all the cooks in the studio's kitchen create films featuring Batman, Wonder Woman and even Aquaman and the Flash to rival the nearly $7 billion in global box office Disney's Marvel Studios has generated from nine films since 2008

In the early going, some in Hollywood are questioning whether Warners has acted too much in haste without having fleshed out the world on which so much hinges. Grumbling among talent reps came especially in response to the studio's strategy of hiring five writers to compete for a job on Wonder Woman, which has a June 2017 release date.

On Wonder Woman, Warners hired five writers not to work together but to compete. Each was given a treatment and asked to write a first act. Based on those efforts, the studio narrowed the number to two: Jason Fuchs (Pan) and another writer whose name the studio declines to reveal. A source not involved in the films but with close ties to the studio says the process on Wonder Woman "felt like they were throwing shit against the wall to see what stuck."

On Aquaman, set for 2018, sources say Warners commissioned scripts from three writers, one of whom followed the studio's direction only to be told the rules governing the universe had changed and his work no longer was usable. Another writer has been on hold for the film for months as the studio works to define its vision.

A Warners insider acknowledges that the studio's approach on Wonder Woman has been "unorthodox," but he says Warners is developing its own "filmmaker-driven" strategy in contrast with Marvel, which generally is ruled by producer Kevin Feige and which has hired untested directors such as Joss Whedon, Joe and Anthony Russo and James Gunn.

But exactly who is in charge of the DC universe remains blurry. Snyder, now finishing Batman v. Superman, is a key player, along with his wife, Debbie. Without a single guiding force like the 41-year-old Kevin Feige, sources say Warners has leaned on Snyder to help play out the parameters for other DC movies. "You can't just give it to a filmmaker," says a Marvel insider. "You have to give it to someone who has an institutional knowledge of these characters."

Joker in in BATMAN V SUPERMAN, Batman in SUICIDE SQUAD

Joker-Batman-v-Superman-042815-Dragonlord.jpg

This past week, David Ayer revealed his version of the Clown Prince of Gotham, and now Latino Review has learned that Leto's presence in Toronto as the Joker will end up serving both films. A few weeks ago the site heard murmurs of a flashback sequence that had supposedly been added to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice where we'd see Jared Leto's Joker beating and killing Jason Todd, aka Robin.

Now a photo has appeared online via Etalk of Ben Affleck in Toronto- which is where Ayer and co. are knee-deep in production- and the site has been told that Bruce Wayne/Batman will be making an appearance in Suicide Squad. On top of that the site has heard that the Batmobile has been spotted in Toronto as well. This adds credence to their being a strong link between Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad.

The idea that the Joker kills one of Batman's Robins comes from the 1988 Batman comic story arc "A Death In The Family," where a reader telephone poll chose Jason Todd's Robin as a victim of the Joker's deadly wrath.

We will also be seeing the Jason Todd Robin costume in a glass casket somewhere on Wayne property, which would possibly trigger this flashback. Regardless of what triggers it, the complete story of how the Joker ended up behind bars at the beginning of Suicide Squad will get explicit context in less than a year: March 25th, 2016.

THE DARK KNIGHT III: THE MASTER RACE Officially Announced

Dark-Knight-Master-Race-Poster-Dragonlord.jpg

Frank Miller and DC Entertainment have officially unveiled The Dark Knight III: The Master Race, the third and final installment of Miller’s seminal Dark Knight trilogy of Batman graphic novels.

Miller helped revolutionize comics in 1986 with The Dark Knight Returns, a tale of a much older Batman coming out of retirement, which now serves as the inspiration for much of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and helped redefine the character of Batman for decades to come. The more controversial sequel, The Dark Knight Strikes Again, followed 15 years later.

Miller will co-write the 8-issue miniseries with Brian Azarello (Wonder Woman, 100 Bullets). The series will ship twice monthly. Artists for the series have not been announced.

"Batman remains my favorite comic book hero and a sequel to Dark Knight is going to be daunting," said Miller in a press release, "but we'll do our best."

"We are thrilled to have Frank back home at DC writing Batman," according to Dan DiDio and Jim Lee, Co-Publishers for DC Entertainment. "The story he and Brian have crafted is an astounding and triumphant conclusion to this seminal body of work which influenced and shaped generations of readers and creators alike."

According to Azzarello, "It's been an amazing experience collaborating with Frank these past six months. I think we have an epic story that these characters truly deserve." The Dark Knight III: The Master Race will release this fall.

Does Zack Snyder's MAN OF STEEL Look Better in Color?

Batman-v-Superman-Color-Comparison-Dragonlord.jpg

One thing a lot of people complained about Zack Snyder's Man of Steel was the desaturated visual palette. In comparison with Richard Donner's brightly colored classic, this movie appears unnecessarily bleak, capturing more of the Dark Knight look than anything that was associated with Superman up until that time.

VideoLab (via Collider) decided to tweak the colors in the footage and present a side-by-side comparison of the real footage with their lightened version to give fans an idea of what we could have had if Snyder had decided to go a different way with his film. Superman doesn't necessarily have to always be bright and colorful but it's definitely a diametrically opposed view from what we got in the final film.

"We're big fans of both Superman and the film Man of Steel," VideoLab said in their statement. "That's why this was a fun project. But Superman isn't just a brand. He's a worldwide icon that has lasted 77 years. When you make a Superman movie, and not every kid running out of the theater wishes they were Superman... you've done something wrong. We're simply asking questions."

New Footage from the BATMAN V SUPERMAN IMAX Trailer

Batman-v-Superman-Screenshot-042015-Dragonlord.jpg

As fans who were lucky enough to get passes to Monday’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice IMAX event were pleased to discover, there was a very special surprise for attendees. When attendees entered the theater, they were given a certificate that entitled them to a free ticket to a preview screening of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice one week before the regular opening. Attendees were told to write their email address on the back of the certificate and to turn it in after the trailer screening.

At the beginning of the Batman v Superman IMAX video, director Zack Snyder appeared on the screen in front of the Batmobile and presented the trailer to the audience. After the regular trailer, the additional five seconds of new footage started with a close up of the face of a very unhappy Superman. Then, the camera panned to an equally unhappy Batman, wearing his armor costume. Batman and Superman charged directly at one another with fists ready to fight. However, right before the two connected the screen went to black, followed by the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice title.

After the trailer, Sndyer reappeared on the screen and revealed that the one sequence where they run at each other at the very end is only going to be seen during the IMAX event. Snyder said when viewers see the trailer online on or in front of a movie, that part is going to be lopped off, because he wanted to have something special for viewers at the IMAX event. As attendees exited the theater, they turned in their certificates for the free advance screening and were allowed to pick up either a Batman or Superman poster.

First Trailer for BATMAN V SUPERMAN Officially Released!

Batman-v-Superman-Screenshot-041715c-Dragonlord.jpg

Warner Bros. has officially released the first teaser trailer for the much-anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Despite the numerous superhero castings and rumors for the film, this 2-minute trailer reminds us that this is still, first and foremost, a Man of Steel sequel and such will center mostly on Superman. In the teaser, we see a montage of Superman performing heroic acts and being adored by the public. We also hear some voiceovers from different influential people expressing concerns about Superman's role in the world.

The biggest highlight of course is our first look at Ben Affleck's Batman in action. The bat costume and the armored batsuit look amazing, both designs taken directly from the pages of Frank Miller's magnum opus The Dark Knight Returns. The trailer ends with the geektastic moment when Batman and Superman face each other with Bats saying, "Tell me, do you bleed? You will!" There is a rumor going around that it might be Doomsday that actually says the line.

There is one thing that I am not too thrilled with though and that is the droney horns-blazing score. It just felt too generic for my taste and felt out of place for first two-thirds of the trailer. Anyway, Snyder has tweeted that the BvS trailer that will debut on IMAX theaters starting April 20 will feature additional footage. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released March 25, 2016.
