Bas Rutten explains the reason for broken legs (vid) due to checks

How about just setting up leg kicks and having good timing?

Isn't that the guy who says jabs are useless?

Yeah, I'm sure he knows what's he's talking about.

Have you ever even seen Bas Rutten fight? Have you watched any of his training videos or looked up exactly what he was talking about?

I highly doubt it if you're making these ridiculous statements

This vid was posted about one year ago where Bas Rutten explained the reason for broken legs due to checks:

...

Bas is absolutely correct.

Look at where Weidman's knee made contact with Silva's shin bone: On the side!

the shin will still break against a cocked folded knee..the upper thick bone of the tibia where it joins the knee cap..

Not really physics but I get what your saying, also Weidman isn't the first person in mma to check a leg kick thrown like that. It happens all the time that's why I call it a freak accident

You're correct. Weidman isn't the first person in MMA to check a leg kick.

However, Silva is one of the top MMA fighter to have seemingly executed the low kick with a slight mistake. He made contact with the side (the flat part) of his shin, so according to Bas's explanation, it's likely going to break. And it did.

To me, this isn't an accident. Silva made an error in the execution, and Weidman's check capitalized on it.

That is a good explanation. I often wonder why MMA fighters don't train in bone strengthening exercises like Bone Marrow Nei Kung, iron shirt, iron palm. I can't think of a group of people who would be better served with this type of conditioning than people who fight MMA for a living.

explain to me how a mma athlete can further strengthen bone ?

Bas Rutten is the fucking man. Why isnt he working for Zuffa?

He has a great self defense video you should check out.

A review of the video said that in most of the situations presented, Bas himself is the one inciting the violence.

There is a vid on YouTube that shows at least five times this has happened....its rare but happens...a win is a win.

I see you point and its valid for sure hard to argue but I still consider it a freak accident to break the way it did. Either way a terrible way for the fight to end, and a terrible way for a legend and arguably the GOAT of mma, (Arguably cuse I think fedor is), to go out. you could see that same kick and check happen 10 times nd the leg doesn't break like that 10 times I personally think, that's what makes it a freak accident. Not the best way for Weidman to win, im sure he was a little disappointed he was winning the fight anyway would have been better to put a nail in the coffin by an offensive move instead of Anderson breaking his leg

the only hole in weidmans first performance was eating 4 or 5 good leg kicks. i was even saying that andersons plan in the rematch should be to look for leg kicks and take this fight in to the 3rd round and then look to take over

weidman shut that shit down

I have tried to find some youtube videos to demonstrate. I am sure there are some out there that are good. I can't find any videos demonstrating the same type of iron palm that I practice. Sorry. I suggest researching the terms I listed.

EDIT: I just remembered there was a television show a few years ago called Human Weapon. If you can find the episode about Kyokushin Kai it has some good demonstrations of a guy who has done some serious conditioning. It is Okinawan and not the same as Chinese style conditioning, but impressive nonetheless. I recall one guy who snapped a wooden baseball bat with the inside of his wrist.

EDIT: here is one example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqgGX0q2-I4

im not sure how effective it is, but i know a lot of muay thai and tkd guys roll metal pins up and down their shins and that supposedly either helps harden the shins or lessen the pain felt on impact.

I also find it interesting when it happens in kickboxing usually the guy who "won" nevert really claim it as a victory, if I was good at computers id post the video of the guy who gave his trophy back after winning that way but it can be youtube.
and to strengthen bones im no dr but they say you can toughen them up by hitting them on hard objects lots, does something to the bone density or something, that's why youll see guys repeatally punch bricks or mauy thai guys always kick tress and shit. dono if I actually works tho.

It sure was a terrible way for a legend to end his career. It made me sick to my stomach when I saw that. Felt really bad for him (and his fans). But this is a tough sport, and things like this happen to a lot of legends (Cro Cop, Chuck, to name a few).
