some body washes definitely do leave that film youre talking about.
i use a girly bodywash because i wanted something that would double as a moisturizer for shaving so that i dont actually purchase any shaving products. it is dove brand and doesnt leave any film

I have body wash in my bathroom. In the guest bathrooms I have bar soap.

Now that I'm on my own, I try to save money by taking cold showers and not running my heat in winter but that's another topic itself..

I feel ya man, I have the same dry skin problem. What finally worked was Nivea In Shower Lotion. You use it last in the shower, just lather that shit on then rinse it right off. Works beautifully.
So when I shower I use bar soap, but also the In Shower Lotion at the end.
