    Good for him. I was always unclear about that guy. A lot of sources make him out to be a jiu jitsu guy, but then others make him out to be a wrestler who learned subs.

    he has a luta livre(sp?) background. in brazil BJJ was for rich folk and luta livre for the poor

    He's all three. He medalled in freestyle wrestling at the Pan-Ams, and was also training Luta Livre.

    When he joined Barra after leaving Ruas, he started in the Gi with BJJ. And now he's a blackbelt, with a very versatile and strong ground game.

    Wow! I just noticed from Gracie Mag that my friend Alex got his black belt at the same ceremony as Babalu. Congratulations Alex "The Footlock Machine"!
