I love it when someone executes a successful axe kick, however it's not the most common kick to see and it's often not done very well.
Has there been a particular fighter who used this kick fairly often to great effect?
Also are there some fights i could check out where there were some axe kicks done well?

GSP (standing) threw several savage axe kicks to mayhem (on his back) Miller's abdomen at UFC 52.

If it was common in Muay Thai you'd see this technique all the time lol

Didn’t seem to translate all that well to MMA, where it can leave you pretty open to a counter takedown.

Cro cop did one on Hunto and some dude axe kicked a dude to the back of the head, KO'd him in Pride.

You need heavy legs and great dexterity to do axe kicks right.
RIP Andy Hug!

on top of the flexibility it is very difficult to land on someone. It is a high risk move, because it is slow to land. Ive seen Mirko land it on Hunt I believe but he didnt have everything on it,and Hunt is a tank anyway. Even more risky in MMA cos easy takedown if you see it quick enough.

Crocop landed one in his fight against Pat Barry if i'm not mistaken. Anyway the axe kick is rare in MMA for the obvious risk of a brutal takedown..

RIP Andy Hug!

Yeah, Hug's kakato otoshi are pretty legendary.

CroCop threw them once a while, multiple times against Mark Hunt in Pride.

Crocop is of course one of the most famous example

Jones has tried it a few times

I also think Michelle Watterson has tried it quite a few times. Seems to suit her cause she's so flexible

People have already posted the Bendo "axe kick stomp" which he has done many times.
But he also tried the standing axe kick against Clay Guida (didn't land though)

The problem is, its pretty easy to catch and leaves you very open for TDs. Also you need to have a certain height difference or very long legs to excecute it.
Therefore its just not the most reliable technique in a sport that is mainly based around effetiveness.

People talk about the axe kick like how we used to talk about spinning heel kicks.
