I noticed that the phone number Tony used to call Steve looks like a real phone number, rather than the 555 numbers usually on movies and tv shows.

Has anyone called it?

It's the number of Warner Bros' CEO.

He did handle spidey and iron man pretty well when they all initially met.
I wasn't the biggest fan of that...he handled them way too easily for a guy that essentially just has a rocket gun, a ray gun, and a goofy mask

it was after that when Thanos said “I like him”.
When I think back about this scene, of all the heroes who had a chance to sacrifice someone just to stop Thanos, it was Quill who had the guts to pull it through. Of course Thanos ain’t having it. Thanos on the other hand, sacrifice everything for his one goal. A complete contrast to the heroes

Wanda had the guts too but, much like Quill, an infinity stone rendered her will useless.

Weeeeeeeeell he is half Celestial too.

Not serum enhanced no. Just aptly trained by Captain America in fighting, shield slinging, etc. and well... has a telepathic link with birds.

There hasn't been enough done with anyone in the MCU to take over the Cap role though. Really, Bucky shouldn't become Cap anyways as he's maaaybe a reformed terrorist, we don't really know.
lol I forgot about the bird bond
But yeaa, i agree. No one has done enough in the MCu to take over that mantle.
But Bucky can't fight as he is. They could use the Captain America mantle to 'hide' him.

Isn’t Groot more than just a tree? Which leads to, his wood is more than just wood and probably takes on the characteristics of Groot....one of which seemed to be “almost indestructible”
Groot died in a spaceship crash. Blown up and burned to ashes. Only a branch survived (baby Groot)

Yeah, had to keep reminding myself of that. It never really indicates he has extra strength/power from that though. Sort of a weird character concerning his strength levels.

My assumption is he thought that Thanos would never in a million years trust him to go to earth with the Black Order. Why would he? Thanos is smart and he knows that Loki, just moments ago, was willing to try to bait him into getting Hulk Smashed. I was really bothered by the obviousness of his move too, until I thought that he really had no other hand to play in that scenario. Ultra powerful telekinetic who could thwart his trickery right there, three other powerful entities surrounding him with weapons and Thanos, the most powerful being in the universe standing there before him and ready to kill him. It was a pure hail mary move and one not likely to pay off, but there wasn't much else he could do in that scenario.

Ehhh Thanos was portrayed as being pretty forgiving towards his enemies. He fought with everyone and left all of them alive when he could've easily killed them. At worst Loki could've used his magic to flee. He pushed his luck with a really stupid idea. Lol Thanos probably specifically killed him for insulting his intelligence.

Yeah, but have they explained what that actually means though?
He doesn't have any powers. Any powers that he had, or potentially had, died with Ego.

"Superhuman Durability: Due to his paternal heritage from Ego, Quill was able to physically withstand the exposure to the energy from an Infinity Stone. He held the Power Stone for a short length of time without dying, and was able to harness its power when sharing the burden with the other Guardians. Quill himself also noted that he was able to survive numerous injuries while working for the Ravagers, though none were implausible enough to raise any suspicion." is about all we know.

Yep.

Groot died in GotG1. The Groot in GotG2 and on isn't Groot Groot, but new Groot that's not OG Groot.

Like Groot's Groot.

Two things that bothered me. 1) Starlord turning into Jon Snow and letting his emotions ruin their plan that the fate of the universe depended on (and it was his plan!) 2) The dumbing down of Loki to have him pull such an obvious ruse and think it would work on Thanos of all people (or that his weapon could even kill Thanos). It was completely out of character. The Loki from the other movies would've actually joined up with Thanos until there was a real opportunity to backstab him. I hate when characters get hit with stupid sticks.

A few people have mentioned this, but Loki really had no other moves. Thanos and his crew had killed everyone else on board. Loki had worked for Thanos in the past, he knows what kind of guy he is.
There was no reason for him to believe that Thanos would let him live.
A sneak attack, as improbable of succeeding as it was, was all he could do.
Loki isn't a total coward. He will get his hands dirty if he has to, but he prefers to use his brain over brawn.

Also a really malevolent scene from Thanos when you think about it because he really messes with Quill's head- essentially taunting him with the notion of killing Gamora. "You ask too much of him." He pushes Gamora right close to the laser. And all the while knowing that he is going to just use the reality stone to prevent it from happening after having Quill and Gamora go through all that. He could have made that gun dissipate at any moment but let the whole thing play out in that prolonged manner to torment the two of them.
Really underrated scene there.

Thanos left virtually every superhero he fought alive.

It was to mess with us. The Russos (or Disney) got us good.

Also, if you look at the trailer, you'll notice that when Cap and Thanos lock horns, the gauntlet only has 2 maybe 3 stones in there. In actuality he had 5 up to that point and vision was just hundreds of feet away.

Indeed. It was heavily rumored that they CGIed up stones out of the gauntlet and it ended up being the case. Another theory that ended up correct is the order in which he got the stones. The poster ended up being accurate

And finally the Thanos theory was also correct

T - Tessaract
H -
A - Aether
N - Necklace
O - Orb
S - Scepter

The H ended up being...not Heimdall not Heart Shaped herb but...Her. As in Gamora who had both the location and had to be sacrificed for Thanos to get the soul stone.

One of my daughters made an astute comment that if Thanos is omnipotent, why not just expand the universe or expand the resources so that no one goes hungry.

Well, while that's a great sentiment from your daughter, could Thanos actually do that?

Also, even if there were more resources, would the greedy and powerful just not take more, still causing people the poor to starve? I mean, we got a ton of fucking food now, but the food we waste is absolutely massive. In first world cities, a ton of people go hungry even though theoretically we have enough food for everyone.

Well, just got home from finally seeing it. Totally awesome. Not sure it's really worthy of a 10/10 but I'll vote that anyway. My #1 MCU movie so far.

Are we past spoilers now?

If so, I'm left wondering one lingering question:

Why wasn't this shot in the film?

They purposely put that in the trailer to throw people off.
