Voted 8 by mistake. Meant 7.
Good flick, but honestly underwhelming after the biggest buildup ever.

I loved Nolan's first two Batman films but his third one (TDKR) was absolute garbage on nearly every single level possible. Holy fuck was it terrible.

If you look at the way the jokes and one-liners were presented in Dr Strange, for example, it's most definitely like they were trying to emulate the perceived wittiness of Whedon throughout. And it didn't work. Don't forget the power he held over the franchise during Phase 2. There's no question it seeped into Phase 3. Whedon's own wittiness and humor began and ended with Avengers 1, in terms of actually working. The rest of it, and most of the humor Marvel has tried to inject into their films since, has been absolute pish. To say the least.

Ragnarok was successful, but so were the Transformers movies. That's not saying much for what fans will and won't watch and what does or doesn't work. People eat shit up all the time. As far as Ragnarok goes, I thought it was trash from beginning to end. If I could wipe it from my memory, I would do it instantly.

Honestly I find your views on a lot of blockbusters pretty arbitrary and often linked to rather superficial complaints and a very narrow view of what's acceptable.

Superficial complaints for superficial movies? You don't say.

And based on what I've seen from you, you're way too easily pleased. So where does that leave us?

Don't forget Vision. Shuri got enough data from the Mind Stone to bring Vision back to life. The question now is if it will retain the whole Vision persona or will this new one be more cold and robotic.
Jocasta looms

Likely with a lot more people agreeing with me than you I suspect.

Honestly to me your opinion on the third Nolan Batman film sums up the kind of "hot or not" views you tend to post most of the time here, I mean I'd be in agreement that its not as good as The Dark Knight but garbage? that seems rather hard to take seriously considering how much of the same style is involved carried out to a similar level.

You actually read my posts earlier in this thread and I do say that I feel Marvel often places somewhat of a limit on its success relative to the very best blockbusters but I don't think something as simple as "too many jokes" is a reason for that. This film for me though did have rather more ambition than I think is typical for them, indeed I think the last Thor film was one of their best as well really committing to being both humorous and generally characterful in a Flash Gordon like fashion.

I mean look at something like Ghostbusters for example, a mix of comedy and more serious action that is most definitely widely viewed as a classic film. That ever blockbuster that features action in it must be as similar as possible to Terminator 2 for me is a narrow view.

Anyone that thinks this was a bad movie is just a fool, plain and simple
I learned long ago not to care about the opinions of fools
Let em go rewatch The Dark Knight while rocking back and forth with a thumb in their mouth. Me, i'll take Thanos killing half the universe any day of the week.

I find both strong blockbusters personally, honestly I tend to think a focus on believing every blockbusters should be deadly serious tends to hint at a more limited taste in cinema generally. I mean yeah the reverse can be true as well with snobs looking down on the medium and only being willing to accept "fun"(although this film is I think less of that than a lot of Marvel) but theres ultimately room for both.

Agree. I definitely think her soul is in the stone. It makes sense in a lot of ways, and provides a logical path to eventually bringing her back.

I thought little Gamora in that scene was really Living Tribunal

I'm sure that's the case seeing as many people easily accept these movies and are easily content with them.

As far as TDKR goes, yeah, I genuinely thought it was hot garbage and unequivocally Nolan's worst film. It was as if he phoned it in, big time, and gave no shits about adequately finishing up his trilogy. If anything, it felt like he did it just to do it, not because he genuinely wanted to, and it was awful because of it. Yes, awful. Especially when compared to the previous two.

As I said before, I'm fine with jokes. But there's a time and a place for it all, and the jokes told need to actually be funny and relevant to the story at hand in order to work. Most of the time with Marvel's movies, especially the more recent ones, they fall flat and become downright painful to sit through, especially when they bombard us with them non-stop and they're not even funny to begin with. Ragnarok for me was an excruciating experience. The jokes weren't funny, the quips were lame, the one liners were off, and the entire thing felt forced and unnatural as all hell; and it was just unrelenting. Even worse, it massively undercut the stakes of the movie and totally killed any tension that could have been. It was as if they just threw shit out there for no other reason than to try and "be funny," but it was at the expense of literally everything else. It may be the most popular Thor movie, but it's easily my least favorite of the three.

Question:

How would you guys feel about a separate Infinity War spoiler thread where you guys don't have to put them in spoiler box. After two days, the threads will get merged. Or are you content with the current set-up?

I'm happy enough with the current set up, personally.

Has anyone mentioned/did anyone else notice that in the first New York fight scene when Spidey gets off the bus and is fighting, someone asks him amidst all the action “who are you?” and he replied “I’m Spider-Man from the future!”

Thanos must undo the finger snap and some of them will have to go back to that moment for some reason, I think. There must be two Spidermen in New York at that time. Maybe to protect Dr Strange?
