It's not that Avatar is that good, it's just Endgame is the weakest movie i have seen in a long time and by far the most shallow movie i have ever seen. The emptiness in that movie was awesome and the most spectacular. Literally the most annoying movie known to me.
Edgy kid is cool and edgy.

We get it.

No one has to like EG but your over the top language is so obviously chosen to separate yourself as the cool rebel is clear. The 'most shallow movie you have seen' in you lifetime... lol.

The Mouse is dancing over this rivalry and people taking it to heart. Cameron sees the benefit in it and congratulating Marvel while setting up the future rivalry of 'Can Avatar 2 beat AIW2' and all the hype behind the push Avatar will get.

I strongly doubt Avatar2 comes anywhere near those numbers as the allure was not so much the story as it was what were ground breaking visuals for most. Unless Cameron has another trick up his sleeves in terms of introducing something new and captivating to the masses, I just don't think this move gets there on Story alone. I predict $1.4B for Avatar 2, a bold prediction as I really don't know anything about it. Let's see what happens.

That said anyway you look at it Disney wins.
Calling it now, old Jim Cameron invents 3d you can watch without glasses and smashes 5 bill

Well Jimmy is not the type to invent stuff but he is the type to take new or not yet mainstream technology that has not yet appeared in a big budget movies and adapt it at a massive scale thus appearing to be the first, as he did with Avatar. He does not shy away from that expense and risk.

3D without the glasses exists but its no where near as immersive as with glasses. You get the depth in the screen but you do not get the things coming off the screen and feeling like they are all around you and behind you.

If you had been to any of many small Imax productions or to many of the Disney immersive interactive rides you had experienced that Avatar like 3D prior on much smaller scales. Probably even 4D with motion added in.

Cameron cannot go 4D and add in full motion as well since theatres won't all adapt to add that. He caught the early wave of Imax tech being added to normal theatres for 3D experiences when he did Avatar. If he wants to go really 3D immersive he would have to get everyone to wear full 3D headsets which means they do not even need a theatre screen.

That could be his big play for publicity. Not only is Avatar airing in theatres but it is airing in all the biggest sporting stadiums in the world. You just need to wear these immersive 3D glasses wherever you are.

Imagine seeing 100,000+ people in a stadium all watching a movie and doing the whole 'head dodge' thing in unison as something is sent flying at their face. That said, wide scale acceptance of the full immersive 3D face set has not been great. Cameron might be able to change that.

Congrats to our Disney Overlords for the milestone.

This whole thing just reeks of being like that gofundme to help Kylie Jenner become the world's youngest self-made billionaire - some sort of collective, corporate Stockholm syndrome at work with people buying extra tickets to try and push it over the line... This level of low key, celebrated corporate sycophantism is troubling.

Weren’t so called “experts” and pundits etc saying like two weeks ago that it was statistically impossible for Endgame to beat Avatar?

That was before the semi re release with the extras at the end although to be fair Avatar was re released as well and with much more extra footage, End Game beat its original release awhile ago.

No, I read it AFTER the re-release because apparently the Endgame re-release with extra footage didn’t do as well as Disney was hoping, so after its debut a few weeks ago the pundits were saying it was “over” and that it couldn’t beat Avatar. Then two weeks later it apparently does.

They underestimated the legs of the film then or perhaps made the mistake of thinking it was US only and didn't take extra taking elsewhere into account, we certainly got the re release here in the UK as well, the film came back on to my(fairly small) local after a couple of weeks of being dropped.

Generally films tend to have quite prolonged legs at the very end of their run as well, some cinemas keep them on even if there not drawing big audiences because they get to keep most of the takings by that point were as the studio takes most/all of the opening weekend.
