Aussie military chief bans soldiers from wearing 'death symbols.'

Why are they allowing soldiers to decorate their issued items like a 13 year old goth kid in the first place?

eh

They probably want our army to be a little more professional than that

I kind of don't care

It's because it looks stupid and it's something that should be reserved for mercenaries and airsoft kiddies.

Morale? Camaraderie? Purpose?

I would say that is fine for those charged to potentially die in defense of our stuff.

I do not defend the actions, not my expertise, but the reasons they would want to feel simple and human.

Intimidating your enemies is nothing new - and quite effective.

We adorn our tanks and equipment the same way. The P-51 with teeth on the front of the plane, etc. The Punisher skull is all over our military.

Not exactly for airsoft or mercenaries...

(Also take a look at the tattoos on all the military folks these days. Death skulls and insignia.)

That's pretty bad ass.

I'm all for adornments. Why not? You're going in to kill or be killed, might as well do it style.

This is so ridiculous and is all about pc imo. Is someone worried these symbols might intimidate the enemy?
Surely pointing a weapon at them does that anyway.

That stuff was also not allowed in the Brazilian Army back in my days, so I doubt it is because of PC. It's more about professionalism and looking the same.

That's funny because there are like 500 muslims serving in all of the UK. Talk about loyalty.

I guess they'll be going into battle adorned in symbols of sunshine, lollipops and rainbows.

Yeah, you're only killing them.

Best not to hurt their feelings.

They are no longer allowed to wear the symbol of Atheism???

What happened to religious freedom?

The SS weren't Atheists, in fact, being an Atheist was not allowed in the SS. Comes down to Himmler's belief that it would put the individual too much in the center.
However, organized religion was also discouraged in the SS. Because it was considered to generate conflict within the ranks.

But the SS was not an atheists organization. You had to swear that you believe in a god during your oath.
Himmler himself was religious as well. They just weren't Christians.

Not a transcendent / supernatural God. A government can be your God.
Every single person worships something. Everyone has a god. It can be God, power, sex, drugs. They all worship. Even atheists.

In the case of the SS, they believed in a transcendent or supernatural God. Sort of an old Germanic kind of religion.
They were somehow an extension of the Thule society.
The Thule society actually plays a big role if you want to understand Nazi ideology because the main Nazi guys were all involved with them.

But yeah, in general, to think the Fuerher himself or the SS Himmler were atheists is wrong. They believed in a higher power they just weren't Christians.

So our soldiers need flair like some TGIF waiter to have purpose and camaraderie? Fuck, I wish somebody would tell them that, because they seem to tie morale, camaraderie and purpose through rigorous training, team building and interpersonal challenging within their teams. But fuck that, right? Jerry's got a Call of Duty Ghost mask, so his team is closer and more efficient now!! Fuck uniform standards, amirite?

80% of the German populace was Christian, and the SS had a few different variations of God on our side on their uniforms, most usually in the belt buckles. The hatred for the Jewish people that arose throughout Europe was always rooted in Christian anti semitism, and the Nazi war machine is the easiest example. Come on, man....

Yea its insane that a group of people would all get the same tattoo or would all want to wear the same badge of some sort its almost as if they see themselves as some kind of special club and want to show it somehow

Who on earth ever heard of something so silly

I'd actually like to see more cheerful symbols, just for the biting irony. Smiley face, clown head, Kool-Aid guy...these would be the symbols of my army. They'd also conduct bombing raids to the tune of "Hit Me Baby One More Time".
