obviously really for common for gi to wear athletic tape on your hands, but what about no gi....loads of people at the gym wear it where I train, was thinking of putting some on my toes because I have a ridiculous habit of toe poking the floor as hard as I can when drilling takedowns.

Most people I know where it on there fingers though...

What are the benefits of using athletic tape in general?

Does a few things

1) Supports the joints to help prevent stubbing/injuring etc.

2) Allows others to recognize an injury - helps prevent others from hurting it

3) Gives peace of mind knowing that your fingers/toe may not jam easy. Helps prevent possible mental blocks during rolls/drills

so is it normal to put on feet/toes?...if I stub my big toe again I'm going to cry

Lol i feel your pain. Ive done karate more than grappling but the pain is real for both. We would tape the big toe to its neighbor. The second toe acts almost like a splint. Happy training!

Edit: Yes its normal =D

You can tape your toes to limit movement to the injured one. I buddy taped my fingers when I did Judo and it seemed to help. Here is a good video on taping your toes. That said I have had trouble with my big toe but am lazy and dont tape them for BJJ.

ha worst part is people don't understand the pain...stubbed my toe drilling wall takedowns and my coach was like pfft just man up and keep going...bro I have no power in my leg because I can't plant on the mat, its defo a valid reason to have a short break

suppose I could just wear wrestling shoes but I might try the athletic tape

My coach is the same way - as a result I'm the same way. Training in Sambo and BJJ, the traction you get with shoes is tremendous compared to tape. If you wear them just be a little cautious to start off. Dont want to pop your knee over aggravating your toe.

whats that thing he puts in between the toe?

Looks like a spacer - possibly some gauze or substitute rolled in tape

Kinesio Tape
Zinc Oxide Tape
Regular Strapping Tape

whats the difference, what does every body use specifically for sports?

Your coach is right though...man up and finish the drills. You have time later to worry about a stubbed toe. But when you do have the time, roll up some tape to place between your toes...it makes a world of difference. And I use Target's generic Up&Up brand athletic tape... best staying tape on the market imo.

Lol i had this attitude. Now I cant do any sort of sport activity without taping my toe. Believe me, it can get WAYYYY worse than turf toe. I'll walk out the school if I'm not allowed to tape my toe up.
