At what point does it become dishonest?

I have a mulatto coworker whose wife is white and they have a daughter together. Exceptionally nice guy who I enjoy working with. Something he said the other day irked me a bit, his daughter is getting a full ride to school and some/most of it is being paid by grants/scholarships for African Americans. His daughter is fair skinned and unidentifiable as an African American. Her parents where both raised by white people.

When does it become dishonest to collect minority benefits? 1/4th? 1/8th? Any level of ancestry?

What if I took a DNA test and it showed a similar level of African/Native ancestry without any prior knowledge on my part?

Isnt it 1/16th native american for free college? Its all retarded.

1/8 black and you could be sold as a slave. An Octaroon. They were the most desirable slaves because the women looked completely white, but could be purchased as a sex slave. Also, the one drop rule made it ok to treat you like subhuman, so yeah I'm ok with the kid getting a leg up.

Two points.
1. why do you give a fuck that some kid you dont know or talk to is going to college for free. Who gives a fuck?
2. I say if collecting minority benefits keeps pissing off petty fucks, then there should be no floor 1/1M as long as it pisses off some jealous sap with nothing better to think about!

Perpetually?

I cant fault anyone for gaming the system though as someone above said Im pretty sure its 1/16th in this case. Were all Africans anyway. Ill estimate im about 1/16000th African.

I'm not jealous, but it did make me wonder how far someone could take it and I'm sure most Americans would throw some level of African Ancestry on a DNA test. Can we all benefit?

Yeah go ahead. You want to check a box and have to answer that question go ahead. The larger issue here is who gives a fuck? Why is this even a thing thread worthy, to you, or to any "American?" I didnt get DICK SHIT for scholarships or Aid or whatever worked obnoxious hours and jobs to put myself through school and took out obnoxious loans. I'm American, you think I for one second give a fuck about what this kid got, or care how they got it. Fuck no, I have shit on my plate. Let people make their bread, shit dont matter to me, Im going to get mine no matter what that other cat has or gets in scholarships, aid, whatever.

Also my brother I mean no disrespect here at all. Worrying about someone elses cheese is some lower rung, hater, plebeian shit. Your kids got 1M in scholarship money fuck bro blessings to that, all babies should be so lucky. Anyway I have this idea for a startup.....(fill in that sentence)

At least until blacks are proportionally represented in wealth and power. When they finally get their piece of the pie.

Fair enough.

What if someone found out they met that requirement through DNA testing without prior knowledge of it?
Then I guess they would be eligible to claim minority status if they wanted to.

For fucks sake...

Every black person does not iust get a full ride to school.

If she, or they, put in the work and qualified for the programs, then its properly done.

More dishonest than tuition increasing by nearly 80% since 2003?

ALL minorities should get a free ride at whites' expense, to any schools or universities, including room and board, food, healthcare, etc. It's the only way to make things fair since the system is so slanted in favor of white people.

Just my 2 cents

I think you're wishing it were simpler than it is. So do I, but it's not.
  • Much like gender is heavily influences by sex, the idea of "race" stems from the face that certain genes are more common with certain ancestries. Despite that, discrete "races" are not biologically valid concepts; they're social concepts. The girl is as black as she feels.
  • Even if someone is "passable," that doesn't protect them from discrimination if someone finds out, which is easy when your parent is not.
  • A child can just as easily be impacted by discrimination toward his/her parent as discrimination toward herself.
Whatever program you're referring to, I'd also ask which of the following two people do you think better fits its spirit?

Person A grew up in a middle class suburban household. She can easily pass as white, and has never been discriminated against on the basis of her ethnicity. She's very close with her elderly Grandmother, who is bright but was always discouraged from pursuing an education because of her ethnicity. Person A wants to obtain an education to become a teacher to inspire children in the poorest minority communities. Person B is a bright minority kid from a poor minority family. She's faced discrimination, some of which has denied her major opportunities. She's good with computers and has been exposed to "modern thinking" that makes her community feel a bit like a time machine. She doesn't blame anyone, but what she really wants to do is get an IT degree, move to Silicon Valley, and leave it all behind.

It probably depends on the program, right? But I don't think there are any easy answers.

In this day and age, people shouldn't get special consideration for skin color at all.
