The park used to be on the pdga tour. It's a eucalyptus grove with little to zero upkeep from the city. The disc golf scene there was popular in the day, but lamo neighbors thought the pot smoking hippies were a bad look.
Turns out kicking out the people who used and respected the park the most led to homeless and actual sketchy people take a foothold.
SMH it all seems so simple but it's not.

Have you ever watched any of his stuff? I'm not a cheerleader for the guy by any means, but the vids I have watched show him to be a basic person with middle right centered takes. The kind of person you could actually have a conversation with and explain your takes and hear theirs.
I don't think anyone who leans a different way politically than me is a useless fuck.

Unlike the Kardashians, which are products of producers and marketing firms, there are no streamers that gain a following through promotion from outside the internet.

Even Hasan Piker first became semi-famous off of TYT before becoming a full-time streamer.

Asmongold gained a following off of streaming World of Warcraft.

But HOW did they become two of the top streamers... out of tens of thousands?

Simply put - They both gave insightful commentary while being entertaining to attract and keep an audience.

Also, I've seen other streamers like 'IShowSpeed' and a few others and they have a charisma, an 'it factor' that cannot be taught or duplicated. Its built on authenticity....credibility with their audience.

People aren't going to Twitch for insightful commentary, they go their for entertainment and because they like what they hear. Doesn't mean there can't be insightful commentary, but there's no reason to conclude either is insightful just because they command social media followings.

This is just dumbing down of media literacy.

People are free to decide what media they ingest. Ideally however, they'd have enough critical thinking to parse different sources.

If someone's idea of insight on politics or the world is a streamer, I'd wager that person doesn't know much about the world or have the curiosity to change.

People are not free in the first world to express their opinions. Look at British and German governments policing people saying stuff. Imo people should be able to say things out loud.

I'm American, my guy. I can say nearly anything, online or in person. In Western Europe, they can do almost all of that.

I'm close to a free speech absolutist, but I also recognize that democracies can function with slightly curtailed speech and that many have a long history do. Democracy isn't one size fits all, it's often localized and I acknowledge that.

My original point was that if someone's idea of insightful social and political commentary is a streamer, they aren't thinking very hard or seriously.

I already explained my idea of freedom of speech. Not limited much aside from slander, threats, and those kind of narrow criminal or legal issues.

If a democracy votes to criminalize hate speech, I don't agree with it. But it's their country and they have a different idea of free speech. I can't do much about that, every democracy has flaws and peculiarities, and they remain the democracies despite or because of them.

Some of the right-wing streamers like Razorfist I regularly disagree with but respect his arguments.

What...when did I say anything about streaming not being popular. Let's make this simple: Going to Twitch to find your insight isn't that much better than going their for medical or engineering advice. Some nuggets here and there, but by and large lacking actual expertise in politics, government, medicine, etc. Specialization, education, and practice exist for a reason.

Because from what I've seen most streamers aren't political, they're just very good at games and they also teach their viewers how to become better at games.

Which is great entertainment, and good for society in my book. If you're expecting commentary on politics or what not, then yeah I wouldn't go to Twitch.
