Asking for the right haircut

A decent haircut means spending over $30 and going to a salon in stead of a barber.

Barbers are for quick clipper cuts where you don't really care how it comes out.

No one you're seeing looking good on TV has a $7 haircut, even if they're spending lots of $ to have what looks like a really nice $7 haircut.

I cut my own hair.. I don't give a shit if it's not perfectly shaped everywhere. At least it's not like when I go in asking for a trim and they cut off three fucking inches doing whatever they want.

Over $30? that's nonsense.

I get tight haircuts with a straight edge shave for $15 and a tip. Takes at least half hour too.

There's nothing special about those $30+ Seacrest haircuts.

that's why i started doing it myself

bzzzzzz all around

Hell I don't think I have paid for a hair cut in the last 15 years. Just buzz it and get a trusted friend to touch up the back.

Is bringing a picture sort of girly, though?

yeah i brought that picture to my barber and he told me to GTFO

I do the exact same thing. I get the gf to do the back though.

Not true at all, it depends on the barber/salon. Salon has so much more stuff that goes along with it that if you really just need a cut it is kind of ridiculous to go through all the stuff that salons usually have, coat check, robe, wash hair station, etc... As far as the haircut is concerned that all depends on the person cutting your hair and not if they work at a salon or barbershop.

Anyone else ever have trouble getting the haircut you really want. I always want the sort of high, tight fade that Diego Sanchez has when he wears his hair real short, but I can never, ever get someone to cut it that way. Just never looks the same.

Do you guys ever have this frustration? If not, how do you avoid it?

Go to a barbershop. My girlfriend is a hairdresser and she hates doing those kinds of haircuts. Apparently they have special clippers/tools/whatever that they use for a good fade.

The same large breasted girl has been cutting my hair for 16 years now. She knows what to do, and how to lean in. :P

When the barber finally gets it right day yes yes yes!! Then exit the barber shop doing cartwheels.

2 around the sides scissor on top. Never had a problem. All competent barbers can do this with no problem.

And there are lots of people walking around with bad haircuts who think they look great.

Of course the same person could work either place, and cut hair accordingly. Int, this day and age, a barbershop typically means a clipper-based haidcut for men. No matter how 'good' you think your clipper haircut looks (and I've had many, given them to myself when I've been short on cash) it still looks like a cheap clipper cut, and all clipper cuts 'chew' up your hair, meaning they grow out like crap. So you could spend $15 on a cut you need cleaned up every few weeks, or $50 2-3x a year at a decent salon that will give you a free "cleanup" or two.

I'm pretty sure the feelings around this are as much based in culture as economics.

I grow my hair out in the winter.

In the spring/summer, I just go to a black barbershop and ask for a #2 cut.

Always happy with the result.

I've had the same hair cut for 5 years, 11/2 on top with a line up and a medium fade.

If you dont like the finished cut then dont pay.

That'll tech him.

My hair is fairly easy to cut and I'm not to picky. I do my own hair but if I do go back to a barber I just tell them to cut it short and it usually comes out atleast decent.
