Asking for the right haircut

Pro Tip:

When the barber shows you your haircut in the mirror, and it's not what you wanted - tell him.

A decent haircut means spending over $30 and going to a salon in stead of a barber.

Barbers are for quick clipper cuts where you don't really care how it comes out.

No one you're seeing looking good on TV has a $7 haircut, even if they're spending lots of $ to have what looks like a really nice $7 haircut.

I've done expensive salons plenty of times because my gf used to work at one.

The best haircut I've had and been getting is from my local barber. He also probably takes longer than the salon people too. 15$ plus tip and usually free booze if he's stocked up.

And there are lots of people walking around with bad haircuts who think they look great.

Of course the same person could work either place, and cut hair accordingly. Int, this day and age, a barbershop typically means a clipper-based haidcut for men. No matter how 'good' you think your clipper haircut looks (and I've had many, given them to myself when I've been short on cash) it still looks like a cheap clipper cut, and all clipper cuts 'chew' up your hair, meaning they grow out like crap. So you could spend $15 on a cut you need cleaned up every few weeks, or $50 2-3x a year at a decent salon that will give you a free "cleanup" or two.

I'm pretty sure the feelings around this are as much based in culture as economics.

Agree with the last part. Men aren't supposed to be vain and spend money at a 'salon'. We're meant to be practical, utilitarian and the buzz cut exemplifies that.

But the truth is you're right - if you want to have a nice haircut, you do need something more then a cheap barber cut.

I always ask for the same thing "a 3 guard fade with about an inch left on the top"

...and everytime it looks a little different because I go to a cheap chain place and have a different girl cut my hair almost every time.

Bunch of metros up in here.

What happened to the good ole' days of just shaving that shit with a knife?

I just wait for it to get to a certain length and then ask for half off.

Not gonna make much of a difference if you're getting clipper cuts and fades.

My hair is a bit longer and ridiculously thick. The girl I see cuts it to where it still looks great week after week. When I was going to cheaper places I was having to go every two to three weeks otherwise it looked like shit.

Go to a black barbershop .
I'm one to talk, didn't cut my hair for 8 years ,i look like a caveman :)

The 1 with the fade and trim on the top works well especially if you have a combover.

Diego Sanchez looks like he has a really short fade and probably like a one on top, but then again I'm not sure if i know what im talking about.

Lol i remember our neighbourhood barber back when we was kids

Everyone was explaining on details him how we wanted the haircut
He was ever "ok ok i got it! No problem!"

Then we all get out from there with that :icon_chee
