As predicted, Max now begins his Tony-like decline

Max is far more skilled and fundamentally sound than Tony. Tony relied way more on athleticism, crazy shit that wasn't gonna age well. Both relied on chins sure but Max has a far deeper game. He won't be champ again but he still beats most fighters @ FW or LW.

Called this; Max should have retired after the Gaethje fight. He had no chance against Topuria and will now be in full CTE-land. He can go help Volk run his deli or something.
Well he was winning the second and the third until he lost.

And he was just as fast if not faster than ilia I didn't see a max decline just piss poor defence other than head movement..

A Slick fake to a straight right ilia performed got him the win ilia has great fight iQ.

I don't think Max is to the point of retiring or falling off at all because of the loss. Just because someone loses doesn't mean there done fell off and need to retire..

Tony was old.. slowed way down did a double weight cut and was drained. His brain was mush and he could barely react when gaethje was just bombing his face in like a punching bag.

Tony didn't make good decisions and Tony got old Tony also didn't adapt.

You can't fight like you're 25 for ever.

He might beat most FW and LW fighters, but my guess is he’ll keep getting fights against like top 5 guys. He won’t be able to hang with young studs or even older but more powerful LWs like Poirier.

The classic “he was winning until he lost” argument

It's hilarious that I've never even seen this Tilapia character fight.

Then how can you compare it to Tonys decline if you agree he can still beat most FWs and LWs? Tony hasn't been able to hang at the top 30 level for LW or WW in years now. Bobby Green of all people got a submission on him lol choked him out something he hasn't done since early in Strikeforce. Highly doubt Max ever ends up that washed or is involved in a performance as low level as Tonys fight with a borderline retired Nate.

Yellow card worthy … max did great - no shame and no tony like decline …

Topuria is that good

Because the decline starts with a bunch of losses to top guys before losing to guys like Bobby Green. Tony started out losing to actual ranked guys, like Oliviera, Dariush, etc

How does Max have a reputation for brain damage when he's famous for not sparring full contact? He's going to be healthier than most fighters.

Miax didn't go out cold and didn't receive career altering damage.
He'll be fine.

Can you point too what prediction you are talking about and what evidence proves it is true? I haven't yet seen any signs of decline or CTE in Max.

Losing to Ilia certainly isn't a sign of decline.

He isn't winning another belt (or maybe even getting a title shot), but he can beat Hooker, Oliveira (again?), Gamrot and Dariush. All of which reside in the top 10. He isn't nearly as bad as Ferguson was when he started to decline.

Unlike Tony, Max still looked pretty good, just not at the very top of the game anymore.

Hooker and Dariush maybe, especially dariush since he seems unmotivated and semi-retired. Gamrot could wrestle him to a decision and Oliveria is no slouch. Doubt Max would be a favorite vs Charles.
