It took some major balls to take on Diaz on such short notice. We as MMA fans have asked for years for someone who is willing to challenge themselves in various weight classes and Conor has done just that, although he came up short I hope it hasn't deterred him from future fights at higher weights. Conor was also humble in defeat and took his loss like a man and spoke very candidly about what he thought his shortcomings were. I still don't like Conor but I admire any person willing to take risks like this in the fight game. It might not be the best idea from a business standpoint but as fans this is exactly what we've wanted for years.

True, true, I look forward to more humblings in the future every time he gets too big for his britches and thinks he can take on real sized men.

TS, you sound like an undercover nuthugger.

Yeah TS it took some major balls to handpick another fighter who didn't have time to train on 11 days notice. Such a huge badge of courage to dig deep and select the supposed easiest opponent for yourself. Just a real warrior!

Uh shouldn't we be giving credit to Diaz taking it on 11 days notice not the other way around?

Real sized men? That's kind of relative isn't it. I mean to Cain, Diaz is not a 'real sized' man.

I don't like him, and thought him moving up with zero defenses was incredibly stupid. Glad he proved me right.

"For years we've waited for a fighter to move up and challenge himself..." And we just saw why it doesn't happen much. There are weight classes for a reason. It's not like the great champs we've seen before were pussies.

Conor got destroyed by a top ten gatekeeper. This is why we don't see champs move up much. Conor got all caught up in his hype, and learned he needs to stay down fighting small guys.

He thought ten day Nate with his skinny fat body would crumple.
He was completely wrong and admitted he lost because he fought a bigger guy who was in better shape, way to go Conor.

It is kind of relative, although the average male is not 5'6" and 145-160 lbs like it is at FW.
Nonetheless the phrase was not meant to be taken so seriously as much as it was meant to make a point about Conor talking WAY too big for his size, as if he would thrash champs above him.

I must say as a self-proclaimed Conor hater, that I can't frikkin stop watching this fight.

Watching him jump like a gazelle at the weigh-ins, become panic wrestler, get his head bounced off the canvas, and show that he is the true "white belt on the mat" all within a day's time was one of the greatest gifts the MMA gods could have ever given us.

op , you got rekt

Where is this idea that he chose to fight Nate coming from? Conor originally was slated to face Dos Anjos, and then Dos Anjos pulled out. Then you're going to say, 'well why didn't he choose to face a fresher man Cerrone?' Nate has a win over Cerrone, and he's the biggest draw out of the people who were willing to take the challenge.

I agree. Weight didn't matter when everyone had different disciplines, ala Gracie. But now that everyone pretty much trains the same arts, weights a big deal.

why do you act as if that was classy. It was excuses. He didnt lose because he fought a bigger guy. Nate is a bigger guy than the guys Conor has been facing, yes. Conor, being one of the biggest guys in his weight class, fought an average size guy from a weight class 10 pounds higher. Do you really think there was more than a couple pounds difference?
Better shape? Do you think Diaz on 10 days notice was in better shape than Conor with a full camp?

He lost because he fought a guy with more skill. You think Nate cant hit harder than he does? Of course he can. He paces himself because he knows the game better than Conor. Conor has a natural talent and thought he could bypass normal methods of training and solid gameplanning. His natural abilities help to mask the fact that his skills are behind the curve.

No because did Werdum stay in and accept the opponent change? Did Jones take on Sonnen originally who mind you was a weight class under, aldo and pettis bitched over what weight to potentially fight at and a million more example. Conor stepped up and fought and even won the first round against a bigger top 7 guy period. It is like people shitting on BJ Penn for losses when you have GSP scared of Anderson and champs pulling out due to opponent changes. Conor could have ducked and he stepped up just as much as Nate

he wasn't humble in defeat.

he blamed the size difference and the fact he gassed. wouldn't be surprised if it comes out Conor was "injured" weeks before the fight and couldn't train properly.

That's a good point.

Was just thinking Nate deserves most of the credit for taking a fight on 11 days notice. Nate is at way more severe disadvantage than Conor is.

Apparently you do not recognize sarcasm?
I would have thought the skinny fat & 10 day Nate would have clued you in.

All haters truly respect Conor deep down. They're just jealous of him and his success. It comes with the territory. These haters greet me at stores like Walgreens all humble or take my orders at McDonalds with obedience. In real life they are shy little people lol. Online they release their frustrations anonymously. It is what it is.

Yeah. Conor has some serious guts fighting a guy who didn't have a training camp and would arguably stand with him more than the guy he was supposed to fight.
