I went through the whole ride with Nick, even the lowly Thomas Denny fights. I remember how hyped I got all the way up to him getting beat by gsp. Still my favorite fighter. Daley/Diaz & gomi/diaz were amazing.
I was there through all the hate and shit talk. But man I was disappointed in Nick when he didn't show up for 137 press conference.
In hindsight, I'm not as upset as I was then. But I remember thinking, if you are as about the gsp fight as you say you are, how can you give him any excuse to slip away?
Now the thing is the UFC dropped that fight that at the time would have broke 1.2 million and settled for one later that sold 950k. And I have no doubt they can pull 1.6 again without conor, or that if the fight is delayed, it won't exceed 1.3 again. And I don't think they care.
The UFC has been dealing with entire promotions full of fighters since before they had the money to do so. They took on Floyd mayweather, Fedor, pride and strikeforce.
As for conor, and to some extent Nick Diaz, I get it, you hate this guy you don't want to lose, you don't care about anything else. But in the world we live in you get up to maybe 85% and you give it your best shot.
Nick messed up and lost. Conor messed up and lost. There are consequences. Don't dig a deeper hole. Don't shoot yourself in the foot.
I'm not even mad at either of them, shit happens but I don't think they are exempt. Nick should have put up with gsp. Cm should have put up with roster UFC 200. Because it's gsp and UFC 200.
He lost to Nate months ago. Don't try to change the rules the week the biggest card in UFC history goes on sale (tickets). That puts a business in a position where they have no choice.
