As a fan of Robert Whittaker, I'm praying that Weidman gets the next shot and not Kelvin

I don't care who he fights next. I just hope he takes proper time to recover. He shouldn't fight again this year. A late winter or early spring title defense against whoever seems about right.
 
Idk, I actually think guys like Weidman and Luke Rockhold are the worst match ups for him. Their wrestling game is predicated on control moreso than theTD, plus they're a lot better than Romero at cutting off the cage, and I doubt Robert KO's either of them.
 
Honestly, I think Weidman poses big problems for Whittaker if this fight were to happen. Whittaker is a small 185er, and Weidman squished Gastelum like a bug and dominated him aside from getting dropped at the end of the first.

Whittaker has handled big 185ers like Jacare and Yoel no doubt, but guys like Weidman and rockhold etc use their size much better than Jacare amd Yoel imo. I honestly think Chris gets Whittaker to the ground and submits him later in the fight kinda like he did to Gastelum.

I would agree, but Yoel has tried to get Whittaker to the ground many times, and failed many times. Especially now, Whittaker has looked a lot slower post USADA era. I think Whittaker's footwork alone poses threat to Weidman's limited movement. He is a bit of a better striker than Jacare, but not much.
 
The mw division has turned to shit .. you know it has when a pudgy sack of potatoes is being mentioned as a potential belt competitor .. Romero won last night and should fight whit again ..
 
I think Whittaker beats Weidman fairly easily. He has footwork that wont ever allow Weidman to catch up with him, unless Weidman sprints at him. Gastelum plays into Whittaker's game, too. Both have nice striking, but Whittaker has a much better jab and has more speed.
 
Chris doesn't deserve a shot so there is that...
 
I'd rather see Kelvin because he earned it and it will be a much better fight.
 
Weidman had his time. Beat Anderson, had 3 title defenses, he should get a regular job while he still can before he gets CTE and is eating applesauce through a straw.
 
Kelvin is a beast. Whittaker's one of my favorite fighters. Dude beat Yoel twice... both times injured. If that's not Brooklyn Gangster, I don't know what is. Fucked up knee, Staph infection, broken hand, roided up Yoel...

I see Whittaker getting beat, only by somebody KO'ing him. Getting him on his back is tough. Bangin' knuckles against him is tough. Someone's gonna need some "aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh DOKKAN" to take him down.

I'm not saying that Rob can't beat Gastelum, he certainly can...but objectively it'd be something close to a 50-50 fight. I think the chances of Rob KOing Gastelum are slim, because of dat Mexican chin and Kelvin's slick boxing. Robert would be wise to shoot takedowns early in that fight and at least give Kelvin another dimension to think about.

On the other hand, Weidman is a tailor-made matchup for Whittaker. A big, lumbering Light Heavyweight (basically) whose entire game revolves around offensive wrestling and basic boxing. Whittaker would see teh Chris' takedown attempts and telegraphed punches coming from a mile away and put him to bed. Bob has some of the best TDD I've ever seen.

Gastelum has almost nothing, less athletic than Romero, no takedown threat, less power in striking (ko over Bisping is not a factor), gassed Jacare gave him a close controversial fight
 
Weidman is becoming so annoying and ridiculous... usually during the events u see some fighters with like 6-0 ... 7-0... record in UFC, emulating the belt... and last night u see Weidman, 1-3, emulating the belt .. pathetic...

I agree. I don't think Yoel even lands two of those bombs if Whitaker has his right hand. Yoel is no fool. He could sense there was no threat from that side. The elbow is something you can only rely on once or twice from that range. It was only a matter of time until Romero was going to press the action and take over. It was very predictable. Whitaker is the Champ and Braved the Storm we saw coming.
