Great article & a great way to describe MMA in 2018 - A MIDLIFE CRISIS

It wasn’t supposed to happen this way. A few years ago, this was alleged to be the fastest-growing sport in the world, a thing that could overtake soccer! That always seemed a little pie-in-the-sky, but there was a real momentum that has disappeared with the speed of a blown-out candle. We’ve gone from pie-in-the-sky to the sky is falling.

Does anyone else not give a fuck how big MMA gets?

Most people on here complain that there's too much MMA.

Couldn't agree more with the article.

They forgot what they did that put them on the long and slow path to be great and started taking shortcuts.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the only reason they haven't stripped Conor is because they want to get the best TV deal possible, and they aren't expecting him to come back anytime soon but don't want to admit that by stripping him of the title.

The popularity has kinda plateau'd in the US.

The author brings up CM Punk to highlight what he sees as a "sky is falling" scenario. However, Dana et al has always been willing to forego legitimacy to make a quick buck. See James Toney. That's just par for the course.

The UFC needs more stability with their crooked belt system. Stop creating interim belts on an arbitrary basis. Some champions can sit on the shelf for months and not risk having the belt stripped while others cannot. It's not fair to the fighters or the fans.

I think it's also fair to say the lower weight divisions (125 and 135) aren't as deep or as popular among fans as the higher ones. I'd scrap those two and just have a 130 division. More competition, deeper talent base.

Agree.
My favorite time was the dark ages of UFC and Pride.
I didn’t care if millions of people were watching or not.

But you’d have to take a position that they are negotiating with morons.

Who was unfairly stripped?

Soon to be in "life support" stage

back in 95-96 we had to wait up to 10 months for the next UFC. Watching had a very special feel to it and your heart would race just hearing that ufc music... and now you hear "too much mma"..

I am starting to sound like my grampa

Hilariously badly written article. Doesn't seem to have a point and if it does the author makes a shit job making it.

If anything, UFC is stagnating, not MMA as a whole, Bellator is actually doing pretty well. Author has no idea what he is talking about.
