I'm just coming from an angle of hearing people on sherdog and youtube (posted to videos) calling him every name their minds are able to conjure up. Just tearing this guy apart because of his involvement and poor performance in a side show event (because, from the perspective of most people outside of the Gracie family that's exactly what it was).

I got a chance to chat with him via pming on youtube and he expressed how this has hounded him over the years.... and how now his son (who plays college football) hears people mocking his dad (Art) just because of that one event.
I mean that's gotta be hard. Especially with the internet and the magnitude of opinions that get voiced. So now your son, who you want to have look up to you, gets to hear your name get mocked incessantly when the conversation topic comes up.

I was only using the child abuse example to counter your feeling that Art deserves "all of the abuse he gets" now.
Consider the extent of the abuse and the action that brought it on.... there seems to be a great discrepancy.

Yes and no.
You do have to lay in the bed you make.

Jimmerson was not a horrible fighter at all. He had an excellent amateur background in St. Louis resulting in a GG title and had a fairly good start in the pros.
What hindered him going further in the pros what the very thing that may have helped him as a human being

Jimmerson was hardly a kid he was 30 years old and had been a pro for 8 years plus. Again Id tell u to read Gentry's book. Jimmerson saw it as a way of making a quick buck and sure he probably thought this is some new fad and it dont mean anything. either way he didnt do himself justice.

Certain others like Gracie had been training their whole life for this.

when i said he deserves all the abuse he gets I was referring to the occasional thread like this or the jibe in boxing circles that he wasnt a true representative of boxing.

Yet all of a sudden your telling me I have put him on a pedestal next to rapists and child abusers. You need to start using your brain pal.

My father also fought in MMA and he lost a fight even tho he was very good in his own discipline. People taunted him and mocked him for that. But these were the sort of cowardly ****s who couldnt say it to his face.So what life goes on.

All im talking about is Jimmerson took $20,000 and didnt do anything. he didnt even throw a punch when he was in range. And yeah Ive had people mock me too but I dont throw a hissyfit like u just did.

I respect Art Jimmerson as a boxer and fighter. all I said was he deserves all the abuse he gets in regards to it being said he threw a fight. I wasnt aware of child abuse or rape or what other idiots elsewhere are saying maybe on youtube.


As far as I was aware Jimmerson took some heat for not putting forward a honest effort.
Im not aware of taking about him as if he was a child abuser and some of the other over the top statements u just made.

I kind of agree. Jimmerson really embarassed himself in that fight and it was nothing but a quick cash grab. I know he didnt know too much about the sport but why would you take a fight just weeks before a fight in boxing?

And didnt James Warring beat up on an MMA veteran?

MC Paul Barman your cool and I see where your coming from.

The thing that really gets to me is the lack of respect of internet turds who claim to be martial artists or competitors have for people who have reached the level of a Art Jimmerson.

I tried amateur boxing and saw really talented kids struggle to win a fight.
Ive done judo to a decent level but to this day I marvel at the 40 and 50 somethings who handle me with ease and teach me.Its taught me there is little as multi layered as fighting sports.To even be at the level Jimmerson was at in boxing makes him a badass no doubt and those bullying kids should consider that

No doubt Art was a talented boxer who often took fights at short notice without proper training while probably holding down regular jobs but by stepping into this thing he set boxing up for ridicule. Again you might counter that people like Trevor Berbick and Matthew Saad Muhammed former world titlists and prestigious names unlike Art "worked" shambolic fake MMA encounters in Japan in the UWFI with Nobuhiko Takada and made boxing look bad, but the fact is those took place in Japan and the first UFC was in the USA on his doorstep.For years after u had people using Art's example that Gracie Jujitsu would beat boxing everytime.

Ive always considered Igor Vovchanchyn and his reign in the mid to late 90's as a great example of what boxing would have done in the early MMA's if properly represented.

That said James Warring did great beating Jerone Turcan and Eric Paulson. I really loved the World Combat Championship format and wish there had been more.

Ok I can accept that not everyone has trained, maybe this guy has who knows... Who cares.

For future reference it is very difficult to throw a punch when somebody is kicking at your legs. Now I know Royce is hardly a Mauy Thai stylist but I'm willing to bet Art didn't know that. He realized very quickly he was never going to be in a position to throw a punch.

The gulf in skillset was so vast the fight was over when it hit the ground. What scanrio can you envisage in which a game Jimmerson would've won?
