Well, it says he's Christian, not Jewish, so I've no idea what denomination or creed he'd hold to, and how or why they'd apply a Nazarite vow.
As I understood it the Nazarites weren't allowed to cut their hair at all, at least that's always been my understanding of the story of Samson.
Without a temple, and with a literal approach to scripture, it seems like there could only be permanent Nazarites.
Could be something this guy's come up with all by himself I guess.
There are Christian sects (most of which are significantly smaller than groups like the Seventh Day Adventists, and tend to be organised around individuals) that take an Orthodox Jewish approach to Mosaic law.
Messianic Jews.
Which is the impression I get from the idea of taking a Nazarite vow.
Weirdly enough I've encountered
them in Papua New Guinea.
Can't say they impressed me.
Not to mention abstaining from pork in PNG is a bit problematic, given it's traditional role in cuisine and effectively as currency.
Not sure whether the US military cares whether this guy's beliefs are anything but his own idiosyncratic interpretations.
