News Arman Tsarukyan says he is the backup fighter for UFC 317 main event

Damn dude, Dagestan destroyed this division. I have zero hype for this “title fight” between the 3rd best guy and the 145lb champ
 
If Oliveira pulls out it will be the battle of the shortest guys at LW top.
 
Many were calling for Arman vs Ilia as the fight to make, and rightly so, Arman is the number 2 guy and arguably the much tougher fight for Ilia.

UFC want Ilia as Champ, facing Arman his chances are slimmer.
 
If Arman is not chosen as a backup or needed, then he hasn't fought since April 2024. Whoever wins, probably will wait another 4-6 months atleast, that's going to be November 2025 at the earliest when the winner will be ready. So what will Arman have to show besides a win nearly 20 months ago? Make it 6 months after the winner defends and that's 2 years. He's going to lose his shot especially if Paddy racks up a win before then.

"Smart career moves" might end up being the dumbest decision Arman makes on the sidelines.
 
If the UFC trusts Arman to make weight he should be in the main event, not backing up, and if they don't trust him to make weight he obviously should not be a backup. Either give him a title shot or force him to make weight without difficulty for a fight before putting him anywhere near a title shot, but this is ridiculous.

In recent times the average time between title fights over pretty much all the divisions is actually around 9 months.

4-6 is incredibly optomistic.

Only a few champs are that active.
Volk and recently Izzy and Poatan.

Women champ fight about 1x/year

HW has an actual undisputed title fight probably avg of every 1.5 -2 years. Stipe/DC era was good for 1 per year but Jones is more interested in sniffing some fucking Russian dudes hair in Thailand.
 
This is a good test to see Arman make Champion weight.

But maybe, Arman pulls out of the weigh in...

Good, so Arman waits over 2 years for a title shot which he missed weight for. Instead of avenging Gamrot loss.
 
Yeah, he's said this weeks ago. He turned down Gamrot so that he can sit around as a back up.

He’ll really show us by beating the 3rd or fourth best guy…… they ruined it by both leaving with the belt and not losing it in the cage. Simple to follow really
