Media Ariel claims that UFC threatened cancellation of bouts

Starts with the reporting of Islam vs Charles, that Ali and Dana said wasn't going to happen.
Still maintains that the fight is happening but adds at the end that it is not finalized.
Mentions that he had been battling a system that didn't want him to succeed.
The UFC used to threaten fighters and managers.
Ariel claims that the UFC used to threaten cancellation of bouts that Ariel was going to report. <45><45>Not going into the specifics of contracts and liability here but holy shit.
Had been dealing with this for a while but only recently found the willingness to talk about it.
Ariel is willing to put up his reputation, his track record and his 13 journalist of the year trophies.

Thoughts? Guy really seems desperate to get the last word. UFC clearly doesn't give a fuck about the guy or this would be grounds for a defamation lawsuit.

he is always the victim

So do you honestly believe, that in a court of law, the UFC, tha same promotion that is currently fighting an anti trust lawsuit, can prove that they never said that to any fighter or manager? You believe every fighter or manager that takes the stand will testify under oath that the UFC never threatened to take away a fight if they feed information to Ariel Helwani?
Hmmmm... do you know the elements of a defamation suit?

There's no real legal basis for a defamation suit here sir.
Nowadays, even LinkedIn posts are enough to kick off a defamation lawsuit and they don't get summarily dismissed. I don't like it myself but it is what it is. And given Ariel's prior history of saltyness with the UFC, malicious intent is pretty easy to prove here.
How the hell did you get yellows though?

Dana was taking the pettiness and his disdain for Ariel to a whole new level. Don't put anything past Dana, he'll stoop to any level to fuck over someone.

Defamation suit would have to prove that Ariel damaged Dana's "good name/reputation"...not sure he has that exactly sir.

And he’s good at it too

That's... not a limitation? You can be a piece of shit and still sue someone for slander and libel.

This is starting to look like the beginning of the downfall of Ariel.

Yes you can, but Dana is publicly known as a scumbag that does fucked up shit to fighters/people.

Hard to prove Ariel damaged something that is known not to exist sir.
Dude, people with way worse reputation than Dana have filed defamation lawsuits and won. The court isn't concerned with the public opinion of the person, only with the 4 elements of defamation.
You're a great poster but this is weird, not gonna lie. Agree to disagree. Cheers.

You're missing the entire point here.
They have to prive Ariel is lying.

All he needs is one manager or fighter to say Dana said or did that.
Not everyone is gonna keep quiet if Dana did say that sir.

I highly doubt Ariel is lying about this.

Defamation is an invasion of the interest in reputation. Under California law, it is a broad term for "false statements" made that cause damage to someone's good standing.

When the UFC started showing reaction tweets on screen, DC confirmed to Ariel that Dana gave specific instructions to the production team to never show a tweet from Ariel.

When Ariel worked for ESPN if he was covering an event on site he had to leave the building if Dana walked in, the building not the room.

We all know he got him fired from Fox.

But somehow Dana White telling managers that they are gonna cancel a fight if they keep feeding Ariel info is too crazy to believe?
Literally no one says it’s too crazy to believe. Congratulations on imagining that. It’s just that no one cares because Ariel has been sleezy enough to alienate everyone that doesn’t make hating Dana the top priority in life.

?? That fighter/manager will be open to cross-examination and you're mistaking the burden of proof. The burden will be on Ariel to prove that his statement was true. Dana/UFC/ESPN/whoever decides to sue has a different burden of proof allocated to them.
This will go around in circles. Like I said, you're cool but sorry, I don't subscribe to the belief that Dana is the devil incarnate and anyone who says anything against him (Ariel for example) is automatically the best person ever.
So yeah, I'm done here. See ya.

Actually no, the onus is on the person bring the suit sir.

MVP??? I mean good luck landing on him but what my boy page ever do? Lmao
Oh those are all people I would love to punch. I don't know if there's a single one on there outside of Dana who wouldn't beat my ass. Even that would be sadly close.
I just find him to be undeservedly smug. He is a notorious can crusher, but he walks around like he's prime GSP/Anderson.
