Yeah because Chael started insulting him first. Remember as Chael started calling him stupid way before he told him to grow balls. Chael was trying to bully Ariel and "alpha male" him. Ever met those guys who, when losing an argument start raising their voice, insulting you directly and telling you to shut up in an increasingly aggressive manner? That's what he was trying to do.
