I don't know if he does. He seems to be righting the ship. If he doesnt need it then the repayment should be easy. Again I've listed a lot of good things including significantly reducing inflation and poverty in the 5th largest economy in the Americas. The guy isnt a terrible leader imo.

Well but you're missing my point, and believe it or not i'm trying to be charitable. In a world in which our foreign aid apparatus has been gutted to the bone, including humanitarian programs that are pennies on the dollar compared to this particular bailout, there's not really any room to convince me that the Trump administration is doing anything out of concern for Argentina. So even assuming this bailout is somehow actually worth what we put into it -and I don't even accept that to begin with- they why would we be doing it at all. Now, Milei certainly needs this for his political career, so where does his political career and that of Donald Trump intersect.
Im not trying to convince you of anything. You could say the Israel/Gaza war was just for his ego. Ultimately these things are not bad and if they are a benefit to the fifth largest economy then it's a good investment especially if they are moving in the right direction. You cant argue the numbers change in Argentina nor the impact of that administrations actions. Them righting the ship from conditions at least since 2023 is important.

Imo its a better one than say Nigeria that has the 10th largest oil reserves in the world yet we just approved 33M for humanitarian aid in September and over 1.2B in 2022. This country may actually right the ship and continue to bring down poverty (21%) and extreme poverty (10%) in a year.
Yup, and that's all that matters to Trump and his buddies. Despite them already having essentially infinite money, they still need to find ways to get more, they're human beings who shouldn't exist or be in power at all.
We're giving Argentina 40 billion (with a B) to combat "instability", and this in any way compares to giving 33 million in humanitarian aid to Nigeria? I mean setting aside that comparison, which doesn't even make sense, humanitarian aid serves a lot of purposes, not the least of which is human capital. If the implication is that 33 million dollars in _humanitarian_ aid there was a waste, then again i'm not sure how on Earth you cna rationalize sending 40 BILLION to Argentina (which is clearly being done to prop up a political career).
It's the act of getting/taking that does it for them. If someone has a bottomless stomach, then they never stop eating.

This a loan. Not a gift. Im not saying its a waste. Im saying that the country has means to help itself but continues to starve the people (poverty rate currently 75%). Aid isnt a waste if used appropriately but the reality is countries like this just pocket all the money and dont help their people imo. Argentina is making strides and improvements. Thats the truth. Night bud.
