I remember some European dude that was selling underground living quarters for the end of the world.

Saw it on the History Channel, I think.

He was kind of a dick.

There are several companies that make underground shelters. They should work well in some scenarios but you need air to breathe and if somebody knows where they are they can just cut off the air supply.

I've never been a prepper, but if I had the money and time then I'm sure I'd put at least some amount of effort into it, not only to be prepared but also because it just kind of sounds like fun.

My uncle is pretty into this shit. He has stacks of Ramen noodles and other food that keeps for a long time. Pages upon pages of survival stuff that he has printed from various webpages. Definitely has weapons. He's all set for a while if the apocalypse comes.

Does he have enough toilet paper? It is one thing all the preppers never mention.

Maybe some thin soft metals. Most steel pails and barrels are rat proof.

I have 150lbs of wheat berries, 100lbs of rice and beans,(buckets, Mylar, and o2 absorbers) salt, sugar, honey, vanilla extract, pasta, popcorn(for corn meal), tons of toilet paper, etc etc. I also keep a lot of canned foods that we eat a lot of. We just rotate it enough to limit waste.

It sounds like a lot, but I just try to keep 6 months on hand. I'm not expecting the apocalypse or anything crazy. You look at places like Greece, Germany(after ww2), or even places closer to home like Detroit a decade+ ago, and it's easy to see that shit can get real fast.

I'd consider myself an amateur homesteader, not a prepper. I'm all about helping my family and neighbors.

Gold has been the scourge of civilizations like the Aztecs. Humans can't seem to overcome the animal instincts that attract them to shiny things.

Gold is awesome, I agree, it's sort of addictive, once you find a bit you always keep looking. I used to pan for gold for fun, never found more than flakes of it but it was very addictive.
