Are we too obsessed with suposed GOATS?

The term doesn't mean much anymore. It is thrown around to much before guys careers are over. Just a diluted term used by fanboys.

Never once participated in one of these idiotic discussions. The acronym Goat sets the precedent for stupidity.

MMA fans are the worst, they tend to only like undefeated fighters or champs, and flavors of the month...but in their defense, it's one of the hardest sports to be a true fan of.

Most popular sports are team based, and if the team gets crushed or sucks season after season, they can blame certain players or coaches and say, well next season may be better when i am rooting for different people with the same team name.

In MMA, if one of your favorite fight starts slipping you have to literally watch them get beat down with little to no way to deflect the disappointment.

That's why soon as a fighter goes through a little bad luck, everyone jumps off the bandwagon. The same people will jump right back on if the fighter starts to win again.

It was great being a Wandy, Shogun, Fedor, BJ, Mach fan for a long time.... Then they started to lose and it was super hard to watch. This is what separated the fans from the bandwagon riders.

Excellent post.

We are too obsessed with MMA in general. We take time out of our day that we could be productive with to bitch, rant, and rave with total strangers. This can't possibly be healthy or the best use of anyone's time.

NGOATS are relative. Babe Ruth / Barry Bonds. They both played in different era's. Gracie / Jones. Different Era's. There can NEVER be a GOAT. GOATS are relative to the time.

I'm totally fucking obsessed with goats, especially pygmy goats and fainting goats.

Here is the GOAT goat...

For a goat to exist, there must a huge gap between the "goat" and the rest, like, Ali was never goat, there's no goat in boxing, Michael Jordan was at basketball, his numbers speakes for itself, Tiger Woods was at golf, Aleksandr Karelin was at wrestling.
The only chance of MMA to have a goat is if Jones comes back, reclaim his LHW title and also wins the HW title.

By that definition Honda is a Goat.

Accomplishments aside Anderson Silva is the best fighter I've ever seen in the octagon.

Never understood the need myself. The endless comparisons and threads attempting to discredit fighters is mind numbing.

I use those threads now as a good way to weed out the fucking idiots on this forum.

that must be a long list, id rather find ways to pinpoint the intelligent fans who arent here for sensationalism - i think you find those folks in the fight breakdown threads, for example

Fans do it for other sports also so it is a legit topic.

However, MMA fans are a little more sensitive when you think someone is GOAT that they dont think is. Like Anderson and Fedor fans. They get seriously rustled if you think someone other than those two are GOAT candidates.

Maybe not, but during my lifetime, prime Roy Jones looked incomparable.

Good lord. When boxing was entertaining. RJJ was an A+++ athlete. Nothing but fast twitch muscle. Explosive punching. Showboating that was entertaining. If e had done MMA, I guarantee he would of been champ.

Sherdog posters are more obsessed with GOATs than the hillbillies from the Rocky mountains.

No, it's just that this forum has a lot of moronic trolls and they like to cause stupid reactions

Tiger Woods is not the goat golfer. Much less it being a huge gap. Jack Nicklaus is the GOAT.

The GOAT discussion is and always will be a personal opinion based topic. Doesn't matter which facts are brought up, it will always be a personal opinion that will vary from different people.

I don't get it either, it's crazy. Need a psychologist to answer this one, gotta be something weird about our human brains. Everyone needs to find that unbeatable and invincible human to believe in for some reason to give themselves hope over something? Who knows.
