Are we ready???

Gastelum would be a good fight and would get him in the rankings with a win. Then a fight with Brunson to test his grappling. He's about to turn 35 he doesn't have a whole lot of time. I think he most likely loses before he gets to Israel.
Well, I like your picks, but I do think he would need more time to get ready to fight Israel.
because even if they fight a standing only battle, Israel is far more comfortable in MMA than Alex is right now.

I understand the age, but I hope that he has about 2-3 years in his prime, which he could improve A LOT. (I mean, from zero to descent is far easier/faster than Decent to good)...and IMOhe needs to be good on (at least) TDD and some ground too.

...to start contemplating Alex fighting Israel in MMA?

Note: I am NOT advocating for him to jump the line at all!

I am merely asking if we start to think it is a possibility in a more realistic way!
I mean, at first, I thought "Yes, he beat Israel, but that was Kickboxing, two completely different sports".
Then "Well, he has to climb up the ladder and fight someone good enough for me to be able to measure him properly"...

But Bruno is real.
He was on a 7-0 (17-1) winning streak, and was a solid test for him.

Now I think he needs to show he is becoming more well rounded with TDD, some grappling/ground game... and that is just a matter of time. The more he fights, we see more improvements. But one thing for sure: If he can keep fighting standing, he can beat anyone in this division!

Thoughts?

I’m all good with that discussion, I honestly think Alex is 2 ranked wins away, one win needs to be an impressive performance where he sleeps the opposition. In other news your long time avatar is a favorite of mine and makes me yearn to grope my wife’s ass

I say Alex beats Izzy if he can get there.

And I think he can if they give him good match ups like Cannonier.

IMO It's too soon. I think Till would be a good matchup. Till (ranked 8) is coming off of 2 losses and should definitely fight someone ranked below himself.

I get the feeling that the likes of Vettori and other top grapplers would be way too much for Alex right now. So if they want him to make it to the top, match him up with strikers like Till/Hall/Strickland etc.

I do want to see the Izzy vs Alex fight in MMA, but I think right now it favors Izzy considerably. He's the better MMA fighter and would win a 5 rounder imo.

hahaha
I am sorry... but you know it was inevitable, after last night's victory. :)

All good, man. There's only been like 37 since last night and 376 this month. I'm just an old ass grump, lol.

100% agree.
That's why I don't even want him against a top 10 yet...
Edmen Shahbazyan or Weidman (if he is ready) would be my picks... or Imavov, if we want a real test :)

nah. I understand.
But I hoped to keep mine from being a plea to have him leapfrog the competition.

I think he needs to improve (a lot) before taking on Izzy.
But I do think that after beating a very game opponent, it becomes a lot more real (the possibility of this fight happening)

Imavov is fighting Kelvin next month. Maybe Alex can fight the winner (or loser) of that fight. I recommended Till because he's gonna be coming off an injury and I want to see if his grappling has improved through training with Khamzat.

I agree with another Sherdogger who said that UFC will likely give Alex a TS after 2, maybe 3, solid wins.

hahahaha
that's funny!
I DON'T want Till exactly because I fear he improved too much of his grappling due to his training with Khamzat...

Last night should've been a draw imo. Bruno clearly landed the cleaner shots in the first 2 rounds and probably would've KO'd Alex if his chin wasn't so good

I see what you are saying. I feel like Till will end up being the MW striker with the best grappling (besides Whittaker). But If Alex can beat him, he will not have to worry about the grappling of other strikers.
Basically Till's grappling will probably be above the level of Izzy and other strikers (besides Whittaker), but below the likes of grapplers (Vettori, Brunson, Hermanson etc). Something like this would be a good test for Alex. Whittaker is another option, but imo he is probably too hard of a test right now for Alex.

All this is assuming Till's grappling noticeably improves.

You know? You have a great point and I agree with you!

Now I want to see Till as well. :)

Not even close. It looks like any good grappler will maul him easily and his stand up especially defense was very lackluster.

They'll need to put him against someone who won't take him down which will be hard considering Bruno didn't even want to. I doubt they'd do it but I think Costa would stand with him.

in mma izzy destroys him.

bobby knucklez would destroy this can too.

It's a good scrap to move along quicker than others. Izzy doesn't have much real competition anyhow and they can sell the story. I see it as likely but not invested really yet.

Khamzat is not even in the same division.... are you sure he can move up and remain as dangerous?
No, Im not sure. He hasn't been dominating at all so he'll probably struggle. Nevermind.
<mma3>

He hardly looked like the killer he is hyped up to be. He is nowhere near Izzy at this point.
Bruno Silva is no cake walk. Alex rocked him like twice and could have finished him if he had more time. Alex is also still quite fresh in MMA and is still getting comfortable with striking in the small gloves. The cage is bigger too so he can't control an opponent as easily when inside of a ring. One last thing to note is that he still hasn't completely adjusted to MMA striking yet, so of course with only like 6 fights, his striking in the cage isn't going to look as refined as Izzy's does with 20+ fights in the cage. Comparing him to Izzy at this point of time isn't even fair. I'm not even being an Alex dick rider, but I'm just spitting unbiased facts.
