As a long time Jon Jones supporter I actually don't appreciate how he's taking shots at DC lately. I was hoping to see a humble Jon Jones return who would let the fight do the talking. I thought a guy who was potentially facing prison time to getting a second chance would be walking on thin ice. However, it's been nothing like that and the guy is just regressing to older patterns.

It's hard to continue to support Jones because it's just enabling this guy to be an idiot again. He was driving 75 in a 35 mph zone just last week.

Are you kidding me? The DUI and hit and run were not enough to learn a lesson to drive safely? That's selfish and i'm beginning to suspect the MMA community is a part of the problem because we just jump back on his bandwagon. In his mind, he probably thinks we're all sheep and he can do no wrong because we always come back. The UFC of course will come back because he makes his money. The guy was going on drug benders and leaving his kids at home--things aren't just miraculously okay--it sounds like a toxic relationship at home. The guy is a FUCK up, but he's super talented and successful so we ignore that? With that said, I'll be rooting for DC after rooting for Jon Jones in the first fight. Anyone else off the Jon Jones bandwagon?

Jones is a villain and not a plastic one like McGregor. I think I'm a fan because he is one of the greatest we have ever seen in the Octagon but his weaknesses are glaring out of the Octagon. It is this duplicitous nature that makes me want to see him continue to win. Johny Bones is human, and humans are flawed sometimes. I don't think I'll ever be off the bandwagon. If he committed rape or murder then yea, I guess I'm off the bandwagon, but partying and driving fast cars, not so much.

Nope.

I could care less about his out of the ring antics. All I care is how he performs in the octagon.
This.

It consistently bewilders me as to why so many on these boards get emotionally invested in the out-of-cage activities of fighters. And worse, why they feel the need to bring that shit to these boards.

Was never on the band wagon.

He was the most hated fighter, and him going around getting himself arrested, stripped of the belt, doing all sorts of scummy things, and now he's somehow a general fan favorite.

Only on Sherdog.

And of course he hasn't learned a lesson.

1 day in court ordered rehab? 75 in a 35, no license or insurance, after a DUI? The list goes on.

He has celebrity status so he can get away with things we wouldn't be able to.

He's a great fighter but a terrible person.

I definitely look for qualities just more than fighting skills in fighters that I like.

Probably wouldn't have gotten into the sport or nearly been as invested in it if I didn't know what the fighters were like.

guys like Jon Jones are enabling themselves. MMA is probably what's keeping Jon Jones from being an ever bigger screwup. It's sad because everyone can see the GOAT material, but he will not achieve his potential with all these issues.

Yeah. People do have flaws, like they can't say no to chocolate cake or have bad spending habits.

Not everyone almost kills a woman then runs away.
I won't wish ill or death upon Jon. I want him to clean up his act because I WANT to like him. Who doesn't like rooting for the person who is winning? I just can't stand people who don't learn their lesson and endanger other people. I'll always tune in for his fights and I'm glad he is coming back, but I will not root for him until he cleans up his act.

I don't think that is bewildering or makes me less of a fan.
It just makes me a human.

Sort of, yeah. He has yet to face any real consequence of poor decision making. Which he's still doing as evidenced by his recent cockup. He won't learn until he's made to it would appear, and people applauding him in spite of his lack of real change certainly doesn't help.

I'm so glad all of you know Jones personally to make assumptions about him. He went 75 in a 35...what a thug.

Jones is a grown-ass man. Like DC said, he needs to get his shit together.

I will watch him as a fighter if he makes it to the cage, but I'm not going to lose any sleep if he screws up again and finally gets incarcerated.

I'm talkin to you the way I wanna talk to you...You dont like it change your station...Fuck off! -"Iron"Mike Tyson

Jones will get criticised no matter what he does, might as well use controversy to create some cash.

Bullshit. If you are in college or have a job, you're surrounded by people that have committed similar and likely far worse actions than Jon Jones. You (have to) accept that and carry-on with your life. Yet, for some perplexing reason, you hold Jones (or other fighters) to a separate standard than the people that you actually encounter routinely. How about you explain how this makes any fk'n sense?

Charles Barkley was 100% right, over twenty-years ago, when he said, “I’m not a role model. Just because I dunk a basketball doesn’t mean I should raise your kids.”

He is a thug. Cocaine, hit and runs, drunk driving, etc.

Also, I don't get that argument.

Yeah, I know Jon. When someone asks "do you know who Jon Jones is" I say "yeah".

Bisping used the same argument. He was posting on here several years ago telling everyone to shut their fucking mouths and we don't know who Tito is.

Do you have a vague idea who Ortiz is?

More than that, do you have a pretty damn good idea of who he is, in and out of the ring and what he's like as a person?

I've seen enough hours of interviews, fights, home film, etc. of Tito to have a pretty good idea of who he is and what he's about.

Just because I don't know the person's bowel movements doesn't mean that, as fairly accessible celebrities, we have a pretty good idea who they are.

I can't understand people who care about how fast the fighter is driving or stuff like this, i feel like in states when someone succed in sport people think he has to be a rolemodel for everyone - can't smoke a single cigarette, drink a beer with friends eat fastfood from time to time or do speeding. It's just seek everyone is just a human why do you care what he's doing in his private life as long as he does his job great whitch is fighting?

No one is calling him a thug. 75 in a 35 is not a big deal? It's 35 mph for a reason. Some kid crossing the street or riding his bike...you think you can react quick enough going 75? Unreal.
