Are those the GOATS of each division?

Peak vs peak best potential record with top 10 of their weight class:
DJ
Merab
Topuria
Islam
GSP
Anderson
Jones
Jones

Merab is still the bantamweight GOAT. His resume is far stronger than Cruz who has 3 of his best wins against flyweights, and his actual best win (Dillashaw) was a controversial decision. Yan is 1-1 with Merab and outside of their fights with each other Merab's resume is much stronger. I'm not going to pretend Yan beat Aljo in either fight because he didn't, crazier comebacks have happened than if Aljo had came back and won in the first fight, and in the second fight Yan straight up lost, was not a robbery. O'Malley fight was close but not decisive enough to be a robbery either.

By your own standards Cody should be ahead a Cruz since he gave him a masterclass.

And you know why he's not, because you saw what the rest of his career was like.

So you should wait until Chimaev is done to really see if he should be considered or not.

I mean…yeah, because at that time there wasn’t enough data to make that conclusion. In the case of Jones you’d have eventually been proven correct obviously, but that’s the kind of rarity that reinforces people making these kinds of fantastic leaps of logic.

MMA history is littered with people we all thought were going to amazing things and win championships or achieve GOAT status, only to flame out. Look at threads from a few years back when people thought Usman would surpass GSP, or Nganou would be HW GOAT… you don’t see those threads much anymore.
Ngannou is not 100% proven
And Usman is just behind GSP

They're in the top 15 for sure. I'm just saying Chimaev is in the top 5. What's wrong?

Prime Cruz beats Prime Cody, it was just not his night

Chimaev also could've lost to Usman or Burns, but Chimaev is better on his best night and their best night

Cruz is one of the GOATS and that fight with Cody doesn't count

There's a certain kind of bias on display in the OP, can't quite put my finger on it....

I wouldn’t say that we have enough info to say he’s a top5 MW all time. He beat Meerschaert who ranked like #23 at the time IIRC, a catchweight with unranked Holland that I guess is technically MW (180 lbs), Usman who was a short notice WW also unranked at MW, then he’s got a decent win over a declining Whittaker, then Drivus.

I’m a Khamzat fan and he’s impressive, but he has like 2 ranked wins at MW. One title win, no defenses. Without a body of work, the only way to say he’s one of the greatest ever is the ol “eye test”—in other words, he looks really dominant when he fights, and therefore we imagine he could beat all these other fighters or do all these things or whatever. But the eye test fails all the time, plenty of fighters in the past have been predicted to go on to great heights only to fall short.

I only agree with LHW and FLW nominations.

Hey guys.....haven't watch MMA since mid 2007 but my pick is Sokoudjou for LHW
