Hey guys,

I am going to Thailand for a week this Summer and I was thinking about training MT there for that time. I am not going hard and going twice, just there to up my game.

I wouldn't totally say I'm a beginner but I'm not the best. My technique is ok and if you see me spar/hit pads you'll know I'm not new. HOWEVER, compared to the fighters that train in Thailand, I'll probably be labeled as a beginner anyway. I am just looking for a place that won't assume I'm only training here because I want to fight or be some bad ass.

I heard places like Sinbi is very good as well as very beginner friendly. Would you guys recommend here?

Also, can anyone recommend me a few other gyms that are friendly with beginners?

(I saw a video where the trainers at Tiger Muay Thai were brutally beating up the people training there and I don't want that.)

Thanks in advance.

Probably almost all gyms in there

If you really wanna learn though, i would say go to any well known gym in bangkok that accepts foreigners, for at least one month

I probably can't go for a month because I took some time off for vacation from work.

This is just harsh... Not all gyms in Phuket are like this right?

Tiger is NOT like this to the regular clients. This is a tryout for fight team candidates and the training is naturally more grueling. If anything, from what I've heard, Tiger caters to beginners well and does not push them too much. Only problem might be it's overcrowded.

Practically all gyms in Phuket cater to tourists and beginners. I would even say that for beginners training in a more touristic gym in Phuket is better than training in a hardcore fighter gym in Bangkok.

Most recreational muay thai practitioners who train 2-3 times per week in their home country all say they go to Thailand and train 2x a day. In reality, most try that for 1 or maybe 2 days and then they just train 1 time a day, cause they need to recover. Many of them only train a couple of times per week instead of 2 times a day.

In the more touristic gyms they understand this mentality better than in gyms where they train for fights in Lumpinee stadium. If you would show this mentality there they wouldn't give you a lot of attention.

Oh that clears things up. I was beginning to get scared from going to Thailand to train.

And I was scared that if I only showed up once a day or something they'll look down on me.

This makes me feel a lot better.
