Everyone knows they're delicious, but I looked it up in a seach and found out that it's made with lard (pig fat) to give it that taste and texture.

Anyone know if lard is always used in the commerical kind, and if it is, should it be avoided or is it okay in moderation?

thanks in advance,

cheers

Depends on which ones. I have found a few vegetarian ones that aren't bad at all.

I think lard is a mjor ingredient in many kinds. Refried black beans would be a more healthful option. I just eat the regular kind anyway though.

anyone?

dude i havent had REAL refrieds in years. not even in moderation. the veg ones are ok as previously mentioned, and you can also find like rosarita refrieds made w/o lard in cans. Black beans are far more nutritious and IMO tastier too. More fiber.
