Are Mexicans taking over combat sports?

Cejudo vs Max Holloway who's with me?

Yes cejudo is American since he won right lol. Last time I checked Americans don’t look like Mexicans. I believe there white!
Cejudo is American because he was born in Los Angeles. He also represented the United States in the Olympics.

Canelo beat GGG, Cejudo champ-champ and Andy Ruiz Jr unified HW Boxing champ.

All have exceptional chins, is this the start of a new trend?

Having that Mexican chin is an unfair and overpowered advantage it seems.
Aren't Ruiz and Cejudo both American?

Also as much as I wanted him too Canelo never beat GGG and Ruiz has to beat Wilder and Fury to be the unified/ lineal HW champion.

For these reasons I think I'm going to have to say the answer here is no.

GGG was robbed

mexican fighters have always been good nothing new
I know you're talking about the first fight. To which I agree.
"Canelo beat GGG"

They're Mexican American, like Cain, Ferguson, and the Diaz bros. And Canelo definitely beat GGG in the rematch.

lol

he won the rematch don't kid yourself.
I disagree.

I wanted Canelo to win and even pointed out the adjustments he needed to make to get the win (which he did) but as usual Canelo was dominant in the early rounds and then started slowing and allowed GGG to take over down the stretch.

Pacing is an issue for Canelo that he needs to address to start winning fights with no controversy because he is undoubtedly the most talented fighter in the division right now.

I'm Scottish Canadian, that doesn't make me Scottish though, it makes me Canadian with Scottish heritage.

No, no he didn't as much as I wanted him too.

Why do Mexicans think they're a different breed? Every race has their talent, heart and work ethic. It just happens that a lot of Mexicans born in America get the proper training in the U.S., give up their education after high school and pursue combat sports as a career. At the same time, they do not give the credit to America when training was taught to them here. Instead, they give all credit to Mexico as if that country taught them all the skills.

Canelo is an exception. If you're talking physically, obviously he does not look like the majority brown skin native. He looks like his ancestry came from Europe two or three generations ago and most people from Guadalajara are mixed with European ancestry.

The world is so big out there and people from all over the country have the same talent if they choose combat sports as a career. To choose combat sports as a way to pay bills means that most likely you have to give up your education. Its a decision to make with lots of guts, I admit.

He has Mexican blood not American sorry. So he in a country where they don’t want him because he’s Mexican but he can use the country for a better life. Just part of the game

"Mexican" is being used more ethnically than nationality wise in this context. No they weren't born in Mexico, but they have Mexican heritage and the same attributes between them.

Canelo has mostly Spanish blood. Mikey Garcia has mostly native blood. Most Mexicans are mixed 50/50

They're not crediting the country of Mexico, they're crediting the genetics and culture that comes with growing up in a Mexican household. I agree different races and ethnicities have their own talent and skills, Mexican fighters just happen to posses great toughness and durability.

I mean Henry's an American. Mexican Americans are a large subset of the US population. Max Holloway is a Native American or native Hawaiian, Marty is an African African American(used African twice to distinguish from the general African American population), and Jones and DC are African Americans. Stipe(former and likely future champ) is a Croatian American. Different types of Americans hold belts but generally we won the war with Brazil and no one group is taking over due to physical characteristics. Tbh even with non Americans the sports never been as diverse with Aussies, French people, Swedes, Russians, Nigerians etc having large represenation. MMA traditionally was mostly "white" americans(cause they tended to dominate wrestling which is the US feeder system for this sport) and a small but growing group of African Americans v Brazilians with GSP being the rare dominant fighter from a third country(that's basically north USA anyway). There was a time when people thought Brazilians were taking over there is the most demographic parity in this sport now than ever before.

Remember that Hendo has the greatest chin in MMA history. Truth is 135 has terrible matchmaking and we had and still have no idea where the top 10 in that division stand in relation to each other cause the division was clogged so badly. MM cleaned up 125, we knew Henry was the best 125 fighter. Moraes avenged his loss to an older Assunaco and boom he's number one contender. TJ lost once every five fights. These wins don't prove much, Henry is small for 135 but he's an Olympic level athlete and I doubt very strongly TJ or Moraes was the best fighter in this division.

If America did not want him, why would they have allowed so many illegal Mexicans to stay, have children, and even amnsety them lol?

Dont forget cain velasquez

I mean Cain is the opposite, man cannot keep himself together. He's like the MMA humpty dumpty. All the king's horses and all the kings men couldn't put Cain Velasquez back together again!:(

Fair enough I suppose but generally if you refer to someone as "Mexican" the common implication would be that they are from Mexico.

Just like if you refer to someone as "Scottish" one would assume that means they are from Scotland.

If you weren't born and raised in Mexico you aren't "Mexican" you are of Mexican descent, it's not really the same thing.

IT wasn't long ago that I saw people saying Mexican MMA would never be a thing.

Ruiz didn’t unify at HW first off.
No, your ignorance of combat sports history is what’s at play here. There have been more Mexican champions at one time than right now in boxing in its history. Just because you think history began when you started paying attention doesn’t change the fact there have been many Mexican champions in combat sports history.

This is like the hype around Yair then he got pounded by a bantamweight.

Cain is the closest anywhere near the hype.

Half these threadstarters probably think Dan Henderson, Chad Mendes & Johnny Hendricks are of that demographic.
