Are fighters actually imrpoving?

I think skill and technique-wise mma has peaked

Izzy is no better than Silva

Top 10 isn't stacked at the moment but that could change.

The absolute best isn't much better than the previous generation if at all

I agree with you the most, I think that maybe the division (and maybe the sport) is rebuilding itself as fighters are still developing through other factors like aging, training more efficiently etc.

Successful ones are always working hard and trying their best to improve.

Conor 2.0 vs Cowboy Cerrone happened in 2019 and its the highest level of skill we have ever witnessed in MMA. Reminded of Silva vs Forest but even better.
There’s no such thing as 2.0. It’s an excuse fan boys like yourself and Conor use if things don’t go their way. He fought a washed up Cerrone after initially trying to book fights with Diego Sanchez and Frankie Edgar while completely ducking the entire lightweight top 5. Stop the excuses and be mature. Your boy got his ass kicked fair and square despite cheating and retired after. Did nothing to warrant a rematch.

the idea that someone comes out of retirement with no motivation is just excuses as well. Before the fight everyone including McGregor was hyping the guy up saying there’s no such thing as ring rust and he feels the best he ever felt.

both of you Khabib and Conor fans are by far among the worst in sports. The former’s fans on here are usually losers who cheer for him because he worships the same God and that’s the extent of their brain power. And the latter’s fans cheer for him because they aspire to be a spoiled narcissistic entitled individual who expects everything handed to them and Mcgregor takes it to another level so they vicariously live through that. Guy’s a duck, rapey, and held up a division for 2 years. Cut the crap.

Without Adesanya the division would be comparable. He’s too elite for that MW pack, we’ll just have to see how Khamzat plays out to see if someone can successfully challenge him.

look at Phil Davis in 2019 compared to the fight that got posted by TS. Phil is a muuuch better fighter in 2020 without doubt. Yes, fighters have improoved over the yesrs for sure.

If Nate Diaz who was a scrub back then can make the "supposedly best striker in mma" panic wrestle, i think it's pretty clear the fighters today are actually not evolving...

I honestly think Chael would run through most of the top ten today. Same with Andy, same with Weidman, Rockhold, and Belfort.

So no, I don't think the skill level is much higher.

Chael was getting his ass torn in bellator

Bruh Prime Shogun would sleep RJJ worse than Glen Johnson did.
It's really a shame how hard Shogun fell off, those chute box wars paired with his knee surgeries killed all his mobility and movement.

I still think Prime Shogun would be up there with DC and Jones prime 4 prime
Lol

Prime Shogun was nowhere near Jones and DC

Didn't he get fucked by Babalu lol

A decade ago triangle sub finishes were way higher
Submission stats have remained relatively the same (at least from 2013-2018):

Personally I think the striking and TDD is better and these rankings reflect that.

Maia, Sonnen, and Okami were almost entirely grapplers. Picture them in a kickboxing match. There are not as many guys like that today.

Because TDD is better you have to have striking.

But I don't think the new MWs are better athletes or drastically better, just a bit different.

A very good striker in the past who would get murked by Sonnen or Okami via wrestling would do better today as they could learn TDD/BJJ easier.

Someone like Bisping who was reasonably well rounded with a great gas tank is about the same in either era. He beats 3-4/10 guys in the top 10 in either era.

Okami won half of his UFC wins in the feet. Particularly got his tittle shot via outstriking three guys in a row.
