Almost 30 fights (27) in the biggest mma organization on the planet and still counting. 19 wins and 8 losses only to guys at the top of the food chain like Silva, Woodley, Weidman, Rory, Shields....

His last run to the title was nothing short of incredible, including a flawless performance over the uncrowned WW champ Condit in under 2 minutes.

All my appreciation to one of the nicest guys and one of the best submission artists we´ve seen in mma.

Thanks, Maia.

Dude has like 4 submission wins in this decade.

I'll always respect Maia. A true warrior in every sense of the word. A class act, in a time when arrogant loudmouth shitbags are ruining the sport.

A straight up wizard on the ground lol I’ve always enjoyed watching Maia work. He’s probably forgotten more about BJJ than most grapplers will ever learn.

One of my all-time fave fighters.

Incredibly nice guy, and BJJ skills clear off the scales.

mounted triangle elbows to unconscious ed herman is the scariest thing ive ever seen

I wish he would talk shit once in a while though. That would really improve his fight game

unfortunately while he is one of the greatest submission artists he also owns the distinction in my opinion to have the most boring title fights i have ever seen with him vs Anderson and him vs Woodley (i don't blame Woodley for his boring fights i blame his challengers)

I was with ya for a minute, but in truth

  1. his career began in 2001
  2. 12 out of 25 wins are by submission
  3. but he only has 4 submission in last five years

that said, I hate to watch him. just glad he is still flopping on the ground begging people to "enter his guard"

I was thinking of his submission wins dating back from his win over Chael and getting KOd by Marquardt.

It’s nearly been 10 years since Maia’s famous 5 UFC fight sub streak. Only 4 since..well..

lol'd hard when he and nate quarry had a tender moment and kissed on lips

Yep he is one on the best submission artists in mma. That is just not enough to win the title these days.

Great BJJ guy, good boxer and by all accounts a stand up guy. Nice one, TS
