My girlfriend and I are moving to Peru in about 2 months. We'll be there for about a total of 6 months. During this time I'll be focusing on work and taking intensive Spanish classes. My girlfriend is originally from Peru and has several consulting projects she will be doing during this time.

We're mainly looking on Air B&B and a local site called "adondeviir"

I find this to be an incredibly frustrating experience. It seems clear to me what is the best value for the money. Our budget is good enough where we can get a pretty nice place, but she is insistent that we have an office in the apartment. She also wants to bring her dog as well. These two requests eliminate A LOT of options. I feel like I found the perfect apartment in the best part of town with modern amenities and plenty of space, but she unwilling to compromise since she feel she needs this office space.

Basically, any of you guys have difficult with your wife or gf when shopping for an apartment or house and how did you guys end up resolving it?

Is your girl going to be working from home? If so, having a home office is a pretty big deal, especially if she’s going to be taking calls/Skyping while you’re there.

If the extra room puts it out of your budget, look into communal workspaces. Most decent-sized cities have something where you can get anything from a workstation to a private office by the hour or day or longer.

It's 6 months, let her have her office space, just tough it out

6 months is nothing, fighters go 6 months between fights, sometimes a year...I wonder if conor gets suspended for more than a year ...anything less wouldn't seem like a punishment, would just be like a living abroad for a year or less

Have you looked into timeshares, or extended stay hotels like Residence Inn? I am sure they have hotels in Peru.

I know a guy who's a full-time traveler with his girlfriend, but the girlfriend is a lot more low maintenance and submissive than your girlfriend appears to be. Don't take that as a value judgment, I'm just trying to look at the situation objectively. His girlfriend loves animals, but was willing to give up their dog in order to accommodate their lifestyle. I also think having a dedicated office space is overrated. I work from home much of the time, and I just have a normal condo and made my own little office space. That should suffice, and if you need anything extra, just go to Fed Ex (or whatever the local equivalent is). The most important thing is to just find a nice place within your budget. You're going to have work to get your girlfriend to understand this

100%. Sometimes I think these arguments turn into her not wanting to give in. The apartment I'm looking at has 2 master bedrooms, two full baths, a spacious living area with multiple tables, and a terrace with beautiful seating. All new and modern. Yet she insists on looking at downgraded options, with a half ass office and some are even one bedroom for the same price.

Oh well, I basically gave in and asked her to show me her top 3 options. If they're crap, I'm moving to Colombia or Argentina solo for the 3 months

thats a coin flip to me.

i thought those were two reasonable things, but not as much for 2 months.

yeah, flip a coin

I'm also looking at apartments with GF right now, can be quite frustrating...I also have a dog and I'd like a yard, a big balcony or at least walking distance from a park. She's irritated by the fact that I let the dog influence our decision.

I'm looking for an apartment solo and struggling so fair play doing it as a duo.
