So I have finally got around to read and watch a little bit about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. And my finding is she is essentially the Trump for Democrats. Here is why:

  • Like Trump, she is threatening the establishment of her party, but the voter base is enthusiastic. 74% of Democrats can imagine voting for her should she decide to run for President one day.
  • Like Trump, she is triggering the media of the opposite spectrum massively. Just like Trump manages to generate outrage via deliberate provocations, the right-wing media seems obsessed with her. Also people seem to defend AOC's statements by saying you don't need to take them literally - like Trump supporters do.
  • Both seem not to give fucks about the traditional political rulesets of their party regarding how to build a political career. And both don't care that their party establishment doesn't like them because they know the base does. Both also communicate with their base directly a lot.
  • Both seem to profit from the trend that competence, experience and knowledge seems to count for less and less. While she doesn't lie to the obsessive extent that Trump does, AOC also is hardly very reliant on facts (and her supporters don't seem to care).
  • Both Trump and AOC have shifted their party's political compass toward the extremes. Trump to the right, AOC to the left. The Republicans have become a nationalist, isolationist, xenophobic party under Trump. The Democrats are now actually discussing about 70 percent top income tax rate, abolishing ICE, and a radical green energy revolution (and tranny rights).
What say you, Sherdog?

In the ways you laid out.. I suppose. But only under those parameters.

Yea I agree with you

All the free Airtime she gets combined with the fact people want a fuck you candidate makes me think she is going to be president in the not too distant future

I think shes sexy as well

She triggers the right and seems to be bulletproof so far. Dodged a fake naked selfie story, and i think people have a lower tolerance for scandal now considering who the president is.

She seems good. Whether you like them or not, they are both winners and fighters.

I think if it comes out she used campaign funds to pay off a male pornstar to keep quiet about their one night stand she will be done. DONE. Only the Teflon Don can get away with that level of skullfuckery.

she has none of his nationalism, zero charisma, and isn't funny in the slightest

But she does say dumb shit all the time, so ya. That part equates

Was just thinking this myself as I read her latest twitter comment on NFL owners refusing to hire Kaepernick - apparently unaware that he turned down the last contract he was offered.

Maybe, but I can at least credit Trump with having good business sense, which is what I’m most interested in.

Also, any politician that threatens Capitalism or the Constitution as it is, is my enemy.

Facts don’t matter to her. She said so.

They're very different in enough ways that the comparison is very weak. AOC is not a billionaire fraud magnate who got a reality TV show and bullied her way into the top spot, or anything at all like that. She's a hardworking public servant who started at the bottom. Her gains from the "trend of experience counting for less" are a legislative seat representing people who are already aligned with her politically, rather than her celebrity being the initial focus and the rest thrown together ad hoc, as is the case with Trump, who even Republicans admit could have run as a Democrat (but the Democrats would have rejected him). I could go on but you get the point. You're pushing a "both sides" narrative without including any critical examination, and this is not a good effort.

What you get right is that populism is producing candidates for various things who are less experienced than usual. What's funny is that Trump is being compared to a freshman Congresswoman from a liberal district, as if her position and the presidency are somehow just arbitrarily the same thing with the same implications.

Maybe I need to clarify. I am not saying they are similar persons or share similar experiences. I am saying they are very comparable in their approach and impact on their respective parties.

If she’s anything like she portrayed on SNL then I hope she stays around cause that shit was funny

Personally, she's my favorite political comedian.

I don't really pay attention even though the MSM is pushing her hard and I even see people all over Reddit and other places saying she should run in the next Presidential election. If some of the quotes I've seen people mock are true she reminds me more of W in that aspect.

I think if you fool her once shame on you, fool her twice... and she's not going to get fooled again.

She reminds of Sarah Palin of the Left (at the congressional level, of course).

She’s attractive enough to get attention. She says a lot of really dumb stuff. The excitement of her followers is way out of proportion with her actual qualifications.

The difference: While Palin was a flash in the pan, i think we’re going to be stuck with AOC for a long time to come.

Half of trumps platform is what the democrats were supposed to do 10 years ago. Either you realize this, or you are a child or are brainwashed. He's moved the right to the middle, of course.

It would be a challenge to find 2 people with less in common, IMO. Any similarities are going to be superficial.

<Lmaoo><Lmaoo><Lmaoo>

I can only assume you’re calling it fake because he was asked to take a pay cut (this after two years of declining stats). So apparently, not only are teams required to hire this sub-par player, they’re also required to grotesquely overpay for him.
