Anyone Remember Brenneman vs Story?

His career did not go really downhill after that. He main evented vs. Gunnar and upset Gunnar.

I remember it well.

Rick story had some fucking creepy gimp manager that was picking his fights and they were certain they would beat Alves.

then when Nate fell off and Dana went FUCKING MENTAL
It really felt like Charlie wouldn’t last a round

Of course, that's the prime example of why it's stupid to fight random people that you haven't prepared for on short notice to satisfy the UFC's content schedule.

Story was an up and coming contender and that loss pretty much ended any relevance that he had in the division.

Also, Marquardt "had to pull out" because he got caught doping for the umpteenth time. It amazes me how little heat he gets from the PED puritans on this forum for being a habitual drug cheat throughout his career.

he already fought less than a month earlier and beat thiago alves, who at the time was considered a top contender.

it instantly elevated story, there was a lot of hype around him (deservedly so, alves was no joke), and he was seen as a huge favorite over brenneman.

i remember thinking he fucked up by taking a fight so quickly after the biggest win of his career. he climbed the top and instantly got derailed.

I remember the UFC was setting up Story for a title shot if he beat Marquardt but Marquardt had to pull out and Brenneman stepped in on short notice. For some reason that fight sticks out to me as the biggest upset in UFC history (one of them obviously GSP vs Serra is the top.) It was very weird. It wasn't even a flash KO Brenneman dominated him. After that lass Story's career went steeply down hill.

That was a big upset for sure. But when I think of Brenneman, I think of the most ridiculous matchup in UFC history when he got put in the cage with Johnson not knowing he was to experience the most life-altering event of his life

I was there live.

Had the pleasure to sit behind Brennemann's whole family.

Was quite a sight to see their reaction when Charlie won. Made me very happy for the guy.

Then of course right after that fight I get to see one of the craziest HW KO's to every take place.

It's the top guys that get heat for it. Nobody really cares when guys that aren't in goat contention pop tbh.

There was a paint shoop of that KO as well, but can't find it now.
