I'm looking to give my car alittle more sound with some catback exhaust. Yet, if I add the downpipe, I'll see some more performance.

Are the HP gains worth an extra 500?

I am going to be 40 and have 3 kids, so I'm not out racing people

Oh shit.....you called it

What car are you putting this on?

It's a '08 Subaru Forester Xt sports

The STI engine w/ the WRX turbo

You won't pass a vehicle emissions test afterwards unless it's C.A.R.B. compliant.
I'm no Subaru expert but I think the Imprezza STI and WRX's after 2006 need an ECU tune because a down pipe will allow boost creep. If the Forester is the same as the Imprezza's, I'm guessing the same would happen.

Anything you can do to help the turbo spool better will help, within reason of course. But if your only option is $500.... there are much better options. For example, getting your car professionally tuned. This is of course, if your stock ecu can be flashed...?

Ps... this is not the forum for this. Most people here don't even know shit about the proper topics for this forum! Find yourself a Subaru specific forum. I think one I Nasioc...?

I am not seeking answers from fanboys, i have looked at the forums for yrs.

i used to drive an 04 forester xt with sti turbo and hks downpipe. it definitely made a difference in spool time and power, just make sure its tuned and you have a good boost controller. just put the DP back on for smog, it doesn't take that long.

Well have you looked online what an intake, exhaust, tune and downpipe will do for your car? It should give you better mpg while cruising and it should cut turbo surge/lag if it is an auto. If it is significant I'd say go for it. I'm all for more power and good exhaust notes. I have kooks headers, hi flow cats, X pipe and a Corsa cat back on my C6Z. Sounds incredible imo.

Likely not overly worth it, few cars can really make decent power of bolt on's. Modern turbo I4s are already pushing it hard.

Get a cheap big ass intake enjoy the wooosh.

I did the up pipe in my old Subaru. I figured removed the restrictions prior to the turbo to improve spool up time. I had that plus the Cobb tuning stage 1 ECU. Pretty quick whip.
I drove that car like an asshole. Every light was a Christmas tree. All turns were drift challenges. I sold the car in 3 years. It would have been my death.
If you are already running the STI engine, you're fast enough.

Blasphemy

Make sure it sounds like a fart. And then torque around the parking lot where you live bumping ja rule at 1 in the morning. Otherwise, what's the point? It's Muuuurrrrddddaaaaaaaa

If you're not getting a protune, don't bother and even then, it will still feel like a Forester. My buddy asks me these questions all the time, I used to drive an '11 WRX, I now drive a '14 Evo X. He bought a '14 FXT, did full exhaust and found himself unsatisfied. He ended up getting a '13 this year and did full exhaust and protune as well, much happier now.

People who make their cars loud are assholes to everyone else around the,

No one wants to hear that shit at night or in the morning
