I'm from Vancouver Canada. People love mma in my town. Lots of people I know who are in to judo are south Koreans.

Powerhouse in the region. Tend to be more physical than the Japanese. Almost a Euro approach to Judo. You need more South Korean friends then.

Forgot to add that most judo gyms are in colleges. I wasn't even a student of the university where I trained and I was already 27 years old when I started.

You need to learn judo as a kid. Judo hurts when you're an adult where kids love to do cartwheels, rolls, basically falling all over the place. They're like cats that don't get hurt easily like adults.
Yeah, kinda true I know bjj know don't want to do judo because it looks painful and don't want to get hurt. But I have seen older dudes and grandpas doing judo at kyu level and not whimping out

I also trained at a university near me that I wasn't enrolled in. I was bouncing and wanted to work some quick takedowns as opposed to punching haha.

Did for 8 years as a kid, massively helped any sport with balance and leverage requirements.

Only one club in my town and it's built around kids.

I don't like how abstract some of the rules can get but as an art it's fucking great.

What abstract rules? Same side grip time limit? The arbitrary calls if it's an ippon or waza-ari? My gripe is them killing leg grabs.

It did teach me to sink my base during clinches which worked well & it gave me better leverage than my opponents.

Jerome Le Banner started in Judo before he became a kickboxer.

Yeah, leg grabbing is nonsense, also the no touching the face in a RNC or the like irritates me. Another is the gripping rules, I prefer less rules regarding grips chosen.

The IJF also banned all ranked judoka from participating in BJJ comps which is straight dumb.

I've been thrown enough during BJJ classes to have massive hespect for Judoka. One of the toughest martial arts/combat sports you can do:cool:
