Anyone here ever get larger rims on your car?

I just bought a 2016 Lexus ES350, and am wanting to make it more 'me' rather than it look like just another black luxury car.

So, I found a style of rims I like, and was planning on buying and having them installed in the near future.

But, the style of rims I want are only available in 18", and my current tires are 17".

I've heard of people getting gigantic 20" and 22" wheels for the style, and it had major consequences on the smoothness of the ride and gas mileage. Wondering if a simple increase one inch would have a large effect.

Anyway, any Sherdogger has any experience
If you want your ride to stay the same you'll need softer suspension.

Is there a factory Lexus set of 18” or 19” you can get from a different or newer model?
A lot of times cheap aftermarket wheels end up looking cheap.

Yeah so long as they have a high-quality tire stretcher. Most shops are too cheap to buy a good one though.
Ok, it CAN be done. But man it just doesn’t seem worth it. Here’s an article about. It has pros and cons. It’s definitely not something I would do.

fuck I was just making shit up, I didn't realize it was really a thing.
What a terrible idea.

Does not void any kind of warranty changing wheels/tires unless they can prove that the change caused damage.

Know that if you have any kind of warranty. Modifications like that can void them.

Edit: i was referring to oversized rims not made for the model.

But good looking wheels can really set a vehicle apart.

Yessir they do.
And in the end, it’s almost a purely aesthetic mod, so what looks good is subjective. As long as he likes the new ones, it’s cool.
Personally I agree that the stock ones are too small, and the offset should be +10 or 15mm for a slightly wider stance.

I agree. Even a 0 offset would be nice.

Lemme rephrase that. I meant an extra 10-15mm negative offset from wherever the factory wheels are at to get the new ones close to flush with the fenders without cause interest any clearance issues. That’d give it about an inch overall wider track.

Ah, I was just asking about that.

Positive offset moves the wheels to the inside, making the overall wheelbase narrower.
Negative offset moves the wheels closer to the edge of the fender, or even past the fender (never do that) if the negative offset is extreme.

Just now watching a few YouTube videos on the subject, and yeah, I have zero interest in that.

Just want to keep it simple.

I know nothing about tires or rims other than diameter. What is 0 or 15mm offset?
I don’t know what your factory offset is. Probably +20 or +15 or something like that. They are very conservative from the factory. The smaller the number, the wider the wheels sit. This does change the aesthetics and increases stability. It marginally lowers mpg (which is why the factory runs higher offsets). When you get new wheels you can change the offset. I’ve always gone slightly wider than factory. It just looks better.
