Holy shit this is painful even to breathe cough to lay down to get up any movement at all hurts

I have read that I should not be laying down motionless but this is the best way to deal with the pain so far

Lay in bed for two days watching YouTube videos and posting on Sherdog

Taking vitamins and glucosamine MSM
Trying to eat and not drink and not smoke

Anyone else have any suggestions or tips?

Don't get sick with a cough and don't laugh. Basically avoid everyone.

Yup. Judo injury. A cousin of mine brought her kids over, one of them who was maybe 40lbs soaking wet was able to push me over and sit on me and I couldn’t do anything about it.

I couldn’t do anything strenuous for over a month.

Watch some funny videos.

Laughter is the best medicine.

I cracked my ribs good when I was a kid. I slipped in the shower and fell down on the side of the tub, it was so embarrassing as my sister heard me and ran in and helped me out. My family brings this story up every year when I come home.

It hurts to do anything for awhile man, I'm sorry you gotta go through this bro....

Not broken, but separated... I think. Never got a strict diagnoses, as x rays didn't show anything. But I had a large selling in my ribs for a few weeks and it hurt to do EVERYTHING.

Ribs are one of those things where your don't realise how much you use them until they're injured.

Ridiculously sore.

Judo;

Intercostal muscle tear, and costochondral separation (the rib is torn loose from the costal cartilage and is detached from the sternum)

I didn't get a chance to heal up properly as I was going through bankruptcy and had just had an "oopsy baby" (my son) and I had to work through it after only three weeks of rest. I was just one more thing, of many, that lead to alcoholism, severe mental illness, and destitute poverty.

Funny thing is right before I engaged this guy I told him we are only going at half speed/power, but he went full out. This was on a lawn btw with alcohol involved, but I have encountered this problem in many martial arts training facilities over my lifetime, including one that has produced a UFC champ.

Lesson; Take all necessary precautions and steps to ensure your health. Without your health you have nothing and are left to the mercy of nature and the kindness of others.

Take some dick pills they should help you with the bone Hespect
Android Silva Bless

I had a separated rib too. It sucks, took like a month to heal. A few days after I separated it I had to deploy to Iraq.

That might well be code for: we're about to try to kill each other.

Unfortunately that macho culture is just apart of human nature and is inevitable to find it at MMA gyms and the like. I don't like people that break verbal agreements to get one up on me, especially when it affects my health, wealth and family.

Yes, it's got nothing on a broken hip.

My first coach was always on my case about knowing when to bow out. And I never actually figured it out during my martial arts career but he was dead right and if something doesn't seem right there's no shame in saying to no to a roll or a few rounds of sparring.

I had a bruised ribbed that might as well been broken since it hurt so bad

It hurt for weeks

Yes, several times. On my left side they never healed properly - 2 broken and several partially detached from the cartilage. It was around 15 years ago but I still get twinges fairly regularly. Apparently it's common with rib-cage related injuries. You can't properly rest them it results in a crapload of scar tissue.

I completely broke my floating rib getting in a broadside collision in college. Took forever to heal.

Sneezed like 3 days after and just sat there and thought I was dying. Most pain I've ever experienced.

Then cracked that same one like 3 years later sparring with some regional MMA pro fighter who was shit at pulling his kicks and punches.

Healed much quicker when it was just cracked.

Training Jiu-Jitsu, tore some rib cartilage hurt like it was broken.

Don’t sneeze or laugh

Good luck

Gelatin; horse marrow; google.

Some of these posters are full of shit most likely ^ They didn't actually break a rib.

I broke a rib due to coughing while I had Pneumonia.

Recovery time was nearly 5 months. Try not to cough, hiccup, etc. Sneezing is the worst.

A sneeze is going to bring you to your knees in pain if you actually have a broken rib.
