Anyone go from hardcore to casual fan?

I'm still a hardcore fan, I follow all the events and watch them. But I have to admit, keeping up with all the prospects is definitely slipping away from me. Typically I'd only see maybe one or two fighters I'd never heard of every other card. Now there are cards where they will be up to 4 or 5 guys I dont know of.

Can't say I'm becoming a casual fan though, I'm still too addicted. lol

My interest isn't what it was a couple years ago.

The oversaturation of the sport is killing it for me. The watered down cards starts to get really old, when you sit through 5 hours of fights and like 2 or 3 have any significance to them. Also too many boring fights and point fighters

I still watch every event , but iv'e stopped watching weigh ins, pressers, DW scrums, tuf (new decision), and I skip facebook prelims mostly, so yeah I have less zeal than 4 years ago, but am still a big fan. this site keeps me informed well enough.

Yup i went from hardcore to casual. Why?
1. incompetent judging
2. too many wrestlers trying to stall fights
3. way to many fight cards
4. guys on main card nobody knows

I think MMA is a great sport it will just take some more time for it to reach its potential. Right now it is too flawed to watch 24/7

Still a hardcore always will be. This sport is like crack for me, I have to watch every fight I possibly can. Especially ufc fights.

TS misses the days when Keith Jardine was headlining cards and Sylvia and Arlovski were taking turns defending the belt.

Funny how hindsight is 20/20.

Watch how some of you motherfuckers will say Hendricks, JDS, & Bendo werent worthy to be champs/contenders in 10 years.

I agree with TS to an extent.

I just feel more cards have watered down the star power of a UFC event by doing so much of them.

Well.... thats kind of their point when building a brand so Zuffa will never be obligated to pay fighters Mayweather kind of money.

no but my picks are getting worse. i used to be around 70% now 62.something

I no longer follow UFC/MMA like I used to. I still enjoy the sport, and I follow the champs, but I'm completely out of the loop regarding many up and coming contenders. I look at fight card results and many names I don't recognize at all. Used to be I knew something about everyone on the main card at least. I'm not bashing the sport or declaring it ruined by this or that...just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

I was hardcore for the first year or so I followed, but after cycling through the champs, I don't care to keep up with everything going on. I'd rather just follow certain fighters that I like.

You weren't hardcore if you've lost interest. I've stopped buying every DVD when it comes out cause they jacked the price but I just wait and buy them when the price drops or are on sale. Other then that im still hardcore. Havent missed a fb prelim since they started.

As the UFC puts on more cards it will be like baseball. Just like baseball you will watch your favorite team but not every game of other teams or have interest in other teams wins or loses. Eventually most people will just watch their favorite fighters and skip the other cards. It's already like this as evident by PPV numbers .

once hardcore, always hardcore.

i've watched every prelim i coudl get my hands on for the last 6 years.

I haven't missed a full card since 2010, I missed a few prelim fights , but never the whole card.

I do miss events from to time now like the last one. Whereas the concept of missing a ufc was unthinkable back in the day. It just doesn't have the aura it used to but I will always be a fan regardless.

Some guys will bullshit you and say its bigger than ever but its nowhere near what it was in popularity like 6 years ago

I honestly don't care much anymore for it. I used to be insane for it but a majority of lnp and jogging/dancing a whole fight turned me off and these cards full of up and comers or people I never heard of that aren't anything spectacular and yet want you to pay like 60 dollars for a ppv yeah I don't think so!

I only watch fights I'm interested in I don't watch every card anymore I watch some world wide mma that i find to be more exciting but that also has horrible fights as well.

I find mma to be more of a thing for young teenagers now it's not the same for me anymore.. no more soccer kicks, very rare to see those all out crazy fights I used to see back in the day.

I used to get goosebumps watching certain fights and be on the edge of my seat.. I don't get that feeling anymore lot of the people I used to follow are now retired or on the brink of it and it's a new day and age.

There are some new guys I like and I watch some stuff but like i said it's nothing like it used to be for me.. I've found myself watching more kickboxing the past couple years and some boxing also.

I do wish ufc would have less events because quality is better than quantity

some events have like 1 interesting fight on with the rest being tuf new comers

I watch everything I can. I watch xfc, bellator, cage fury, cage warriors, old fights from small shows on the Internet, it doesn't matter. I love this sport and I follow it even more than the nfl.

I was a mixed martial artists addict, now I am recovering. My wife and I had a baby, we gave up cable for Netflix and HULU and I am slammed with work. I used to get many of the PPVs until events were happening twice a month. So now I catch old TUF episodes on HULU, I am on Sherdog a few times a week, and I read the play by play on Sherdog for events I wish I was buying. So I am a casual fan with hard core roots. I don't recognize the names of non-past or present champs and title contenders. When I ready play by play, I skip down to names I recognize. Been watching Fightmaster on HULU, I like that show. I like the UFC pressers and youtube behind the scene stuff but unfortunately I miss most of the live events. I'm ok with it though. I buy PPV if Anderson is on or if someone else in my house wants it which is rare.

edit: LOL just take a look at my Avatar from when he was champ!

My situation is very similar to yours; I don't have a new baby but work and family keep me very busy. I got rid of cable for Netflix and HULU as well; but I've never been much of a TUF fan so I don't care to watch that; old or new.

I have gone from a hardcore fan who used to stay up all night watching the events live when they broadcast from Japan to somebody who now watches, on average, every other UFC event and almost no Bellator events.

Like TS said; it's not that the sport is worse or dying, I just have less interest in it than I used to. However as a lifelong boxing fan I do find myself more interested in boxing the past couple of years than I have been in a while. Overall though as I've gotten deeper into my 30's I've found my interest in sports as a whole declining.

I started watching since 2007 and my love for the sport is still the same. I rarely miss a fight. I don't order every PPV like I use to but I still find a way to watch it.

The problem is that 5 years ago even my casual fan friends were excited to watch silva, Liddell, penn, Brock. I would call then and they would be like, o hell ya I'm coming over. Now, I tell them and they are like whose fighting and I'm like uhhhh he has no idea who any of these guys are. I'm stuck watching by myself or not watching at all. I have went from hardcore to slightly more than casual in the last 5 years
