Anyone else surprised UFC didn’t counter program Bellator Mousasi vs Rory?

UFC counter programmed Bellator Sonnen vs Rampage and Bellator Bader vs King Mo this year.

I’m kinda surprised that they didn’t counter program the biggest event in Bellator history on 9/29.

Zuffa owned ufc was more cutthroat with the counter programming and undercutting their competition perhaps?

What ever came of that fbi investigation into the ufc for potentially monopolizing the sport?

The sport isn't getting viewers. It wouldn't hurt Bellator or help the UFC to counterprogram at this point.

Tbh, the UFC needs fans to watch Bellator. With interest in the sports as a whole waning, they're all sinking on the same ship.

Fuck the counter programming. I don't want to choose between the two, like on July 14th.

And it sucks that there are only 7 UFC events from August thru October. Hope Bellator fills the void.

To be honest I think a reason interest is waning is due to the overstauration of MMA.

Good. This is Bellator's biggest fight coming up

Isn't this on DAZN exclusively though???

doesn't seem worth it for the ufc to even bother counter programming

UFC has been on DAZN for a couple of years, maybe they are interested in the numbers

This is true, but it's the UFC itself who owns that fuck up. There have always been rival leagues to UFC, EXC, Strikeforce, WEC, IFL, in the western market. The height of the MMA boom is honestly attributed to EXC/Strikeforce and Kimbo Slice, not the UFC itself. Those EXC/SF cards did great numbers on CBS. The over saturation isn't about the number of leagues, it's about the UFC putting on cards damn near weekly, leaving it hard for casual fans who don't come to sites like Sherdog to keep up with it all, and the UFC doesn't promote their cards properly either, leaving a lot of casuals without knowledge that cards are even happening at all, and even, sometimes, us too. There are too many platforms to watch the cards, with PPV, FOX proper, FS1, and FightPass. I understand why they wanted to do some of the things they've done, but it is too much and really needs to be streamlined.

I love Bellator cards as much as UFC cards for the most part these days. Last night's UFC event did put Bellator to shame but overall, it's been a good thing to watch.

Yes I agree with you. Nice to see a well argued position here :)

I could have better expressed myself if I said overstauration of the UFC

They counter program the competition. Bellator is not competition.

Why would UFC be worried?

I know it's harsh but they're technically all UFC rejects.

Bellator aren't close to challenging UFC at the moment. Maybe at the final of the HW tournament.

They don't want to risk beibg embarassed if Bellator out draws their card. Simple as that

This too. There are going to be a ton of people without access to DAZN in the first place, and many more who are unwilling to pay. S

I honestly thought that was what you were getting at, but I went ahead with my post anyway.

Cheers, bud.
