I really liked the event, it was a fun and unexpected night but these two upsets had something peculiar about them, it showed two huge holes in the otherwise "invincible" image these two champions projected.
When Holly fought Ronda she seemed so strong, to the point where even when Ronda tried to take her down she very calmly defended and got back to where she needed to be.
In this fight she looked downright scared about the takedown, she looked nervous as fuck, as if she knew the fight would be instantly over the moment she got taken down, it was ridiculous, the lack of defense she showed in the ground coupled with the horrible decision to flip her over left my mouth wide open in disbelief, I instantly thought of how badly Ronda would have beaten her if Ronda managed to take her down and play her submission game. I really love Holly but this was a horrible performance by her, she looked nervous on the feet and horribly inexperienced on the ground. Are you telling me the Jackson camp never brought a specialist to practice some RNC's on Holly?
And Conor, he became a panic wrestler when he got hurt, which is sad just in itself, considering all the fun he made about panic wrestlers, but I don't mind it since it's always a smart move and keeps you from being hurt.
However, every person who has ever seen both Diaz brothers fight know that if you are hurt by them, the worst possible place to go is the ground, you will be instantly submitted, this is not high strategy fighting IQ bullshit, it's common sense, if you are hurt against a Diaz and you become a panic wrestler, you get subbed, as simple as that. Conor had speed and skill on Diaz, he could have boxed the whole round and recovered, at the very least try to clinch or wall fuck Diaz, at least 2, maybe 3 other options that every person who has been around fighting for a few years would know. But somehow, in his panic he thought the best way to go was to take a Diaz down while being hurt?
I don't mind, at the end of the day we have Miesha finally winning her belt and Nate showing us just how much of a badass he can be, so I am very happy and had no favorites (haven't had a favorite since Fedor lost to werdom, being a nuthugger doesn't pay, plus I also, you know, grew the fuck up)
But to see the two stars of the card lose in such an amateurish way is disheartening, it's similar to how Ronda lost to Holly, we saw so many holes in her game but it was also due to Ronda just fighting like a stupid person winging arms running at Holly gassing herself. In my mind what happened to Holly is even worst because Holly was on point yet she was terrified of the ground.
That's it.
